Well, when I used to play with him a couple of years ago, think he was an 11/9 almost nit. But he made reference in the thread that he had opened his game up a lot (not sure if he was joking or not).

Why did you check behind on that flop? That is a perfect flop to c-bet, paired rainbow board with no real draws. C-bet in these situations like 99.9% of the time.
Also villain's stats? If his call PFR is high he's calling with lots of Ax hands so unless he's an aggortard he'll fold to your c-bet.

Meh, I check behind quite a lot there because all his small pairs call and we're only hoping to fold out like AQ. I just don't like c-betting at all there and I c-bet a hell of a lot as it is. It was his second hand and he folded his first so no history at all.

You don't have history but if c-betting works ~ 50% it is +EV so go ahead and c-bet otherwise you are playing fit/fold and discarding your initiative and position.
btw: If he raises QQ+/AK that is 2.51% and calls with the rest of his pps then his call pct 4.5%. If he's calling wider than 4.5% he's calling with alot of Aces and Broadways.
