Hey CardChat family! 👋

Poker is a game of skill, math, and strategy… but let’s be honest, many of us have our little superstitions when we sit at the table. 😅

Some players wear the same hoodie every time they play, others won’t start a session without their “lucky” snack or drink. 🍫☕ I even heard someone say they never look at their cards until it’s their turn, because it “protects the runout.” 🤯

So I’m curious:

Do you have any personal rituals or lucky charms when you play? 🍀

Do you believe in “hot seats” or “cursed spots” at the table?

Or are you 100% math + logic and think superstitions are just nonsense? 📊

Personally, I don’t fully believe in it… but I admit I sometimes feel more confident with my “lucky playlist” playing in the background. 🎶

Let’s share some fun stories — maybe I’ll even steal a new superstition from one of you guys for my next session. 😎

No, I don't. Poker is about math, psychology, and strategy - not luck charms.

yes, you can totally rely on it to interact with your opponents, I once wrote an article and posted on relaypoker about this, but I don't remember the link

No, I try to believe in statistics and what I deem to be actually truthful but sometimes when I tilt, I might start to believe

I don't believe in superstitions like that. Poker is about math, psychology etc. and no good luck charm will minimize variance. That being said, if someone was to have a "good luck charm" as just something they keep with them for confidence or to make them smile, then I say go for it! :) I just don't believe it's going to have any supernatural powers to help you.

I don’t really have any lucky charms, but I definitely have a few small rituals — more for focus than superstition. I like to take a moment before a session to clear my head, check my mindset, and remind myself that the goal is to make good decisions, not chase luck.

That said, I’ll admit there’s a fun side to superstition in poker. Everyone’s got that one seat or table where they seem to run hot, and it’s hard not to notice patterns. I don’t really believe in “hot seats” or “cursed spots,” but I get why people do — when variance plays tricks on you, it’s easy to assign meaning to the randomness.

So while I don’t believe the chair has any power, I do believe the player’s mindset does. If you think a spot is lucky, you’ll probably play more confidently. And that confidence can make all the difference.

Nope. Luck evens out, it's all about the long run.

i don't play any 63 hand unless I'm BB. If I'm playing two tables and get the same hand at the same time then I play more aggressive (the universe is trying to tell me something). When I've folded a weak hand twice like 10,4 o and it wins both times it gives me a feeling that the rng favours this hand for the whole game

Some players won’t start a session without their “lucky hoodie.” Others avoid sitting in certain seats or play better when they’re holding their favorite card like pocket 7s.
Superstitions are everywhere in poker. Even the most logical players sometimes catch themselves thinking, “I always lose when I sit in seat 3.” 😅
But here’s the thing poker is a game of skill, math, and mindset. Luck comes and goes, but discipline stays. Believing in superstitions can sometimes help your confidence, and confidence does affect performance… as long as you don’t let it replace good strategy.
So wear your lucky hat if it makes you feel sharp just remember: the real magic is in your decisions, not your charms.

I don’t believe in poker superstitions. The only thing that matters is discipline and reading your opponents right.
But at the poker tables, you can see everything.

I will always get bad beats at the poker table until I feed my cat. :D Also, I've recently started taking a shower before CardsChat tournaments, two hours before they start. And I've noticed that it brings me luck, at least at 888.

I believe in superstitions, in my town they say that if you play with eagle feet under your arms you could be very lucky, I'm trying to find some legs.

Iam pretty sure, because i experienced that myself. You have to believe in your own way and habits at the poker tables. I guess this has nothing to do with superstition, but things like "lucky snack, observing others or never look at cards until it’s your turn" are just little helpers to stay sharp and confident. Most if the time, they will tell you stories because they now: If they are honest, others could think: "Man, this guy got crazy"
There will be much more, if you put in the efford and ready to execute an elite lvl approach.

OSuperstition is not part of poker, but rather of the person, we put superstition into everything.
