Here's an interesting article that should strike a note with one or two of us.

How many discussions have you participated in that debate the degree of skill vs. luck in poker?

Are you able to effortlessly recall or calculate the odds? Do you keep careful track of your hand history? Are you able to explain "expected value" in your sleep?
- are these good signs or bad?

I wondered a lot about these details of the report, however, it is clear that this only affects players who are not profitable. Precisely because they need more money and everything else.
Yes. There will be positive players who will have problems with the addiction, however, if they are positive they will feel happier and this will not be such a serious problem. I believe it.

The question for me is: when will I be so positive?

Do I have an illusion, just like as a child I wanted to be a soccer player??

I manage to win tournaments from time to time, I'm often in the prize pools, but I don't see a real profit in that. I don't know if because I play micro tournaments, I've studied this a lot about probability, range by position, and I can't seem to leave the place. I always find a damn one with 94o breaking my KK, QQ, AK and being eliminated, generating enormous frustration and the need to try again.

from the moment it interferes with your health!!! and in your daily life we have an addiction! but on the other hand, everything that gives us any form of satisfactory return ends up being addictive! Summary: Play lightly without guilt and chip in the towel we'll see you at the GL tables

Behavior/ Good sign by itself/ Can be a bad sign if…
Debating skill vs. luck / Yes/ Used to deny or justify excessive play
Memorizing/calculating odds / Yes/ Used to rationalize ongoing losses
Keeping a hand history / Yes / If it becomes compulsive or interferes with life
Explaining EV clearly / Yes / Does not directly imply addiction

Not addicted to poker. It is for me a form of relaxation, like washing the dishes or seeing a movie. What is cool is once in a while it pays you money compared to going out to eat which always sets you back a few $$$. And I always fund a new poker site with winnings from an old poker site.

I'm not an addict, I get distracted by playing, so the time is not felt, it goes by quickly, and I don't keep any record of my gaming history.

The definition of addiction among the general population is a fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing or activity.
Now as a functioning alcoholic myself i know there are 2 medical categories: substance and non-substance addiction,so with that being said i guess i have both thank you for this eye opening reality :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: back to therapy.

Being profitable does not magically remove frustration, variance, or emotional swings. It just changes their shape. Winning players still deal with downswings, bad beats, and self doubt. The difference is not happiness, it is expectation management and discipline.

The question “when will I be so positive?” is dangerous because it implies there is a finish line where poker suddenly feels fair. There is not. Even strong, long term winning players lose most tournaments they enter and bust to nonsense hands regularly. That part never goes away.

Micro tournaments are especially brutal because variance is huge, fields are soft but wild, and edge realization takes forever. Studying ranges and theory is necessary, but it is not sufficient on its own. bankroll size, volume, game selection, and emotional control matter just as much.

Poker addiction isn’t about how often you play, it's about losing control of why and how you play.
It starts when poker shifts from a game of luck to a game of skill.

The first step to recovery is recognizing your addiction. Recognize that poker has ceased to be a hobby and has become a source of problems.Replace poker with activities that bring you joy and benefit: sports, reading, creativity, or traveling. This will distract you from the obsessive desire to play.Your question doesn't make sense because there's no context. Do you mean luck or skill in any one random hand, like in a single game of chess? Probability games like poker and backgammon don't work that way.
