once I had AQ suited, raised preflop, got re-raised, and wasn’t sure if I should shove or just call. I ended up folding and later saw villain had AJ 😅. Do you guys usually go all-in with AQ or play it cautiously?
In case you haven't practiced it in the GTO Wizard,
I'll try to simplify a line of reasoning here.
If you have a lot of chips, you started the action and only got a raise, leaving only you and Villain in the hand. You don't need to risk your tournament with so many chips, so a 3-bet or call would be the best decisions. Calling can still be more interesting because you have a hand that can develop very well on the PO FLOP and get even more chips from Villain without putting the tournament at risk. Villain can do this with many hands, including AA and KK.
If you have a moderate amount of chips, I think playing a little more conservatively can be good, and it's interesting to just see the flop, as this can still mask a strong hand.
If you have few chips, in this case, going all-in can be very well regarded, because you can get your double and are more in line with the range, putting the onus on Villain to consider the risk they're willing to take.
I think this can roughly guide you...
A phrase I always remember is: How much are we willing to risk being eliminated from the tournament? If there's a risk, let's fold.
