Tilt doesn’t always show up as anger for me. Most of the time it starts as impatience or forcing hands I would normally fold. Once that happens, even small mistakes begin to add up fast. I’m trying to get better at spotting those early signs and taking a short break before things spiral. Managing tilt feels just as important as learning strategy. What are your personal warning signs, and how do you deal with tilt when it starts creeping in?

I can only be in TILT during a long poker session due to fatigue. In other cases, I can use TILT as a tool. For example, after a bad beat, I can play with a monster hand, imitating TILT. :sneaky:

I don’t think what you’re describing is pure tilt at the start. To me, those are external factors that slowly affect the way you play, and once you start playing worse because of them, that’s when real tilt appears. It may sound simple, but even small worries outside the game can change our decision making without us noticing it.

My recommendation is to take care of anything that might distract you before you start a session. If you don’t, those thoughts stay in your head while you play, and that’s when you begin forcing hands and making mistakes you normally wouldn’t. So in a way, you’re not tilted first. You get tilted as a consequence of playing poorly due to things outside of poker.

I agree. OP seems to be describing fatigue, distraction or stress from outside of poker.

There are plenty of things you can do to try to alleviate this with a bit of planning.
  • Have a schedule
  • Be well rested
  • Make sure other tasks/chores are completed
  • Remove distractions like phone or TV

Best thing i can advice you when youre experiencing tilt is, 1 if you still playing a tournament with a healthy stack, deep breath and make the best decisions, 2 if you are not playing because you got eliminated, stop playing poker at least for that day.

Warning signs → Overconfidence. Unnecessary over-aggression.
How I deal with tilt → Get up for 3–5 minutes. Mindful breathing. Am I thinking about EV or about money? Differentiate between a technical mistake and an emotional mistake.

For me, tilt rarely shows as anger. It’s more impatience: rushed decisions, forcing spots, the “I’ll win it back now” mindset.

The main warning sign is when I stop focusing on making the best decision and start focusing on the result.

What helps:

  • 5-minute break
  • deep breaths
  • think in EV, not money
  • if my play quality drops, I end the session

Tilt isn’t losing a big pot.
Tilt is when the quality of your decisions declines.
