The best thing to come out of this is the progressively salty hand 'breakdowns' from Daniel. During one of the commentaries one of the commentators mentioned Doug had lost $1.4mil in a $800/$400 HU match before, so these swings probably aren't that wild for either of them.

I'm starting to doubt that the whole 25k hands will be completed. I think there was a betting line on Pokershares whether it will stop at 12.5k hands or not. I don't see it currently.

Im loving this battle of the greats!!
its exciting watching the all the different live streams that have been following this battle .
Aswell the videos DNegs have been posting on the day after

its been a battle! can DNegs make a come back?

I'm surprised at how Negreanu plays, from what I've heard he loses strategically. really no one can tell him his mistakes ?! maybe there is some other bet or agreement about which we do not know, and this meeting is beneficial to both.

I don’t think it’s more likely that Denis is more focused on offline. And Doug specializes in online and it is HU games.

fwiw, it's potentially 25,000 hands of HeadsUp NLHE (unless one chooses to opt out at the 1/2 way mark, at 12,500 hands). It really doesn't matter how hot one is running... the sample size is clearly large enough to make up for variance.

If poker is (hold'em) is more down to luck than skill, why are there some players who are consistent winners and many others who are regular losers??
Even amongst the CC forum of freerollers.... there are some who consistently place high on the Leaderboard month in and month out. How could that be if it was all purely luck?
And why are some of the micro stakes players on here 'winning' players over the longrun and many others are regularly depositing ?

Having re-thought about the 2nd part, I do think you are right, there is a lot more skill over a longer period but as I said in the first part does it really matter to these two great players?
They will obviously meet again on the felt and do battle again someday.
In my view they have both proved they can play consistently well in order to make a living from the game, which is something I will never achieve.
