With school just about over we do nothing in class. In first peroid we play a 5 person sng. The past to days the same thing happened.

I get delt, ace king suited, I make a decent raise, guy goes all in. I call, he shows 7's. Flop come 2 a k, turn is an 8, and the river, is a 7

Today. I get delt pocket queens heads up, I go all in, the other kid calls, he shows pocket 2s, flop is 7 5 9, turn is a king, and the river, a 2.

Can I catch a break?

Thats just poker - happens to everyone. I think we all feel we can't catch a break with good cards sometimes. What grade are you in - high school or college. Just a little hint - delt is spelled dealt.

I know how you feel, I'll get aces and some guy will call with like jack 10, and he'll flop a full house. I have no luck lately

Hi - Its not a matter of getting A's and getting beat by a J/10. Its the matter of not betting properly. Would he have called you if you put a bet in of say 1000 before the flop? If he did - then he's a wild player or calling station. Then he lucks out with his win.

Betting strategy is a huge part of this game. Something I need to learn as well. Remember, even if you have AA it doesn't always mean you win a big pot. Winning the pot - any pot - is the goal - not only how big it is. I'm sure you would have been happy winning just the blinds if everyone folded. A win is a win. And a loss is ... well you know. LOL

That's a lesson that took me awhile to learn when I first started playing. I used to slow play aces, and now that is something I do not do at all. Aces can easily be cracked just on the flop, so I make sure if someone is going to crack my aces then they are going to risk alot if not all of their chips to do it.

ok so u say aces can easily be cracked just on flop right? and thats very true,,but using that theory,,you yourself are taking the biggest risk,,because we all know there is always one person that will call you. so why would u urself risk losing all or most of your stack,,,when you can easily limp in and maybe set,,then bet big? the theory of if i bet big cuzz i have aces is gonna land u on ur azzes,,,:)) i have called that hand and won with pocket 5's. do u know its better to bet like that on a live hand that aa? think about it,,ok people stay in mainly with the higher things such as aa ak aq etc, u are sitting there with medium pr,,well most people dont keep medium cards,,so,,you catch.(now leave me alone my brain cells r sleepin)

I'm guessing everyone didn't get the memo that someone is always going to call if you bet big because there are many occasions that I have bet big and everyone folded.

Secondly, the fewer people that call the better, if there is only 1 person against my AA then the chances that it will hold up are better, however if there are 10 people that see the flop, odds are I will be beat, and AA is a hard hand to lay down. I would rather get my money in when I have the best hand than to limp and pray noone flops a set or 2 pair.

For example:

I have Pocket AA on the button, 5 people have just called the BB, it gets to me, I raise big (not necessarily all in, but a substantial raise). Chances are unless someone has a big pair they would fold, since noone has raised, chances are everyone is looking for a cheap look at the flop and noone has anything. Lets say the person in the BB has Q-2. Now usually with a hand like that they would fold to a big raise. So lets assume that 1 person does call as you say 1 person will always call. Lets say they have a pair of 10s.

Now lets say the flop is Q22. So now if I had limped in and the BB got a free/cheap look at the flop I would be beat, but having put in a substantial bet I am still in the lead.

Now sure in that same scenario the flop could come 10-10-2 or 10-J-7 or something that would make the pocket 10s the best hand, but I'm pretty sure that's why it's called gambling. You can't win them all, but what you can do is put the odds in your favor, and narrowing the number of hands playing agains your AA is the best way to put the odds in your favor.

neither strategy will work every time! u got to know the table, know who will play with sub-premium hands, if the table is tight then bet more, if its loose, bet less. thats my strategy, seems to work mostly... but u still lose sometimes

The first hand, that was just bad luck. The second hand, depending on chip count, you could have raised nicely, waited for the flop, where the twos know that they are probably beaten, and then go all in. Chances are those twos would have folded. By going all in before the flop, you are giving the twos only two options, call or fold. By waiting, most of their odds are out the window, giving them no choice but to fold. I wouldn't risk my chips w just 2 cards to come, on a 2 draw.
