what to do in an all in

If you are in a tourny for money and you have the same amount of money and a person keeps going all in before the flop,with what or when would be the best time to call him.I realise bluffing is part of poker but it seems I get knocked out cause they get lucky during the flop.Any suggestions with an aggressive player.

patiants is what you need. if you just let him take your blinds until u get a hand like aa ak aq kk or qq then u will most likely take him out

yes thats the only way i have found to beat people like that--i wait for a good pr and then i call,,, normally i win,,but sometimes i lose,,,but at some point and time someone has to deal with the idiot one way or the other

I had a guy doing that on me and I called with A,Q and he had 8,3 os or something and caught 4 of a kind 8's. I had him more than covered and he did it again and I called with Q,T and he beat me again with nothing so it's always a tough situation but you just gotta play the odds and eventually he'll lose out.

personally i think the people that play like that are cowards--u know dam well they cant have good pairs every hand--instead of playin their hand they go all in knowing no one will probarly call and he at least wins the pot--dont know why they cant play the hand or fold.

This happens a lot in freerolls and it is frustrating to say the least. I agree that patience is the key. I usually hope that I am the one to get the pocket rockets and double up. The problem arises and compounds when people call these players with less than premium hands and double them up. The all-iners are never going to make final table but they are a pain in the meantime. If it is later in the game sometimes I will stall the clock and hope to get moved.

I just play my game and if I belong in the hand, I play it and as fubarcdn said, I'll stall the clock for the next round. This guy is there for the same reason you are but has a different way of going about it. When the stakes get pretty high, you'll see him get back to normal. Another thing! Some good player do that when they first play at a particular site or at a new table and it's there way of making you think, they're a whacko, maniac, loose, blah blah. Then when he starts his game he thinks he's got you hooked.

When that happens, you can bet, that every good player at the table is salivating, and it becomes a race to see who will be first to get that calling hand that will double 'em up. After he's gone you'll usually see some comment about how they wished they'd have been the one to knock him off.

Strange

Does anyone else notice something strange on the sites near the breaks.....or right after the tourney starts sometimes....Yesterday i'm in the tourney on Poker host....and I say to myself....this time I'm gonna make it to the final table....i'm not calling all in for nothing.....I'm one away from big blind and the tourney just started.....I get a pp J's....FIRST HAND.....so I just call the 10....guy next to me raises by 300...the guy next to him calls....THE LITTLE BLIND raises to 700....the BIG BLIND re-raises all-in.....Man I just felt it....I said everyone's got a pp and they want me to call to get me out.....I mean who folds a pp J's pre flop....especially when you got 5 people going all in....So I call.....Last guy before the little blind has AA .....little blind has QQ....BIG BLIND has KK ....I have JJ and the guy after me....THE ORIGINAL RAISER.....HAS 8 4 OF DIAMONDS.....Can you guys guess who won the hand?

lol I can guess, but back to the all-in type of guy. Last night I got moved to this wonderful table where a guy was raising a good amount and all-in. I was very very very patient. Not my type of style to be patient but it did pay off and made me double up. I even at one time to mention folded an ace, queen. That was because I on the button and the BB went all-in then that guy went all-in. I said nope it wasn't worth it and folded.

i just get me a :beerglass and start wearin out the old fold button. If a premium hand comes great if not, let someone else do the dirty work. Even in a freeroll things eventually quiet down.

that happens to me alot too and i found out that you just have to know when to call or not to call i feel in the situation you go with your hand if you have a strong hand go for it and if not be cautious

On those all in pre-floop I say u must have also a lot of luck !!!

I've taken a few all in with great hads like AA AK AQ KK etc. and lose for some much lower cards !!!

So even if the odds are in your favor you still need that magical thing called LUCK !!!

Players who do that end up getting broke every time.

Just wait on him.....I guarantee other at the table are.......The only Question is who will get the cards to call first.

What a player like that is doing isn't bluffing...It is gambling. Worse startegy possible that never works in the long run.

They play like this because they know that they will get outplayed if it goes to the flop.

I usually like to follow a simple startegy in NL poker trnys, if I am unwilling to go all in on a hand preflop, I wont even limp in, and if its worth going all in on then it is worth a raise. Therefore i never limp in it shows weakness. As for the bluffer you just have to be patient and pick your spot and call him or wait until some1 else does and takes him out. Either way patience is the key dont be in a hurry.

I usually (in freerolls - where this happens all the time) base my decision on all-in on whether or not I want to be honked off the rest of the night or day if i get shafted. I was too tired to make a rational decision recently and matched someone's all-in in the first ten minutes of the UB TEC weekly final tourney. After I did it (and, as you might guess, went out), I looked in the mirror and said, "What were you thinking?"

I would hate to do something like that in a big money game.

Using suited aces or high pocket pairs are supposed to work wonderfully in these situations. However, there's always that occasion when they do actually have pocket As and you are screwed...what fun what fun. Anyway, i don't go after them very often, i have found that no matter what i go all in w/ to try to stop them from bullying i manage to lose. I think i am cursed

How to play against an aggressive.

Usually when people are playing like that is because they know that you won't call. So they usually play pretty weak cards (especially in heads up) like, just one Q and some other number card. Ppl employ this strategy b/c if they can keep buying your blinds late, even when you do go all in it won't matter for them to call it with your blinds they just took. So, other than being completely patient. Play when:

1. You have two face cards
2. The sum of your cards is 18 or greater
3. You have an ace and another hole card greater than 7 or equal to or less than 5 (for the straight).

That's pretty much how I play it. Keep in mind, poker is a gamble.

I was in a $50 tourney last week. I put someone all in with three Qs got beat by flush. Then I was a short stack at the table and waited for decent hand. I went all in on A 10 suited. got called by pocket As. No flush cards or 10s came. Not much choice though.
