I’ve been thinking recently about the skills that don’t get enough attention in poker. Everyone talks about bankroll management, reading opponents, or knowing ranges…
But what’s the most underrated poker skill in your opinion?

For me, it’s emotional discipline. Staying calm after a bad beat or a cooler is harder than people think, and it can completely change your session.

What about you? What’s one skill most players overlook?

The most underrated skill in poker for me may be game preparation, which involves analyzing your opponents, their playing styles, and even their current mental state, allowing you to make more informed decisions during a session.

I believe pre-game preparation is underrated in poker. Whether you've rested well, what you ate the night before, whether you took a walk or spent the entire day lying down scrolling social media—at this stage, many people are setting themselves up for failure.

Hey there,

i struggle a lot with shifting my mindset (i think most people struggle with that, cause we are human, but not everyone talks about it or even tries to grow with that). I got a really stressful job with difficult kids. I cannot bring myself into that relaxed mood very easy. I learned a lot about emotional discipline in Poker. But putting that into practice and bring myself back to a lower stress lvl is hard work. If iam rested and everything is fine, its easy... but i have to get a lot more relaxed in difficult times, or playing Poker makes no sense . I try very hard to achive that with enough breaks, meditation and physical activities. And yeah iam getting better with lots of patience, discipline and determination.. i personally grow with that and i never give up.

Greetings,
Natox

I feel that it is to be conservative, I hardly enter with low cards, but I realize that if the cards arrive, then I think that underestimating the cards is not good but that you have to have faith in them.

I think that not all players understand the importance of playing carefully on the bubble. For me, reaching the prize zone is a must in every tournament I participate in. Therefore, I think that the most underrated skill is the ability to sense how many big blinds in the stack are needed to reach the cash prizes.
