The first world poker champion was Johnny Moss, who won the first World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 1970. The tournament began as a series of games and Moss was chosen by his teammates as the first “World Poker Champion”.

  • Format : In 1970, the tournament was decided through a series of cash games, including five-card stud, deuce to seven low-ball draw, razz, seven-card stud and Texas hold'em.

Very cool. Wasn't that the story that everyone voted on himself first, and then for the 2nd round they made a rule that you cannot vote on yourself?

Reminds me how they welcomed Michael Mizrachi in the Hall of Fame of Poker this year after winning the World Championship of Poker for a 4th time and the wsop for the first time, absolutely beautiful moment.
