Does the one with the better computer really play better, or do they just play more calmly?

A better computer doesn’t make someone more skilled — it removes distractions.
Less lag, smoother multitabling, and stable HUDs mean calmer decisions, fewer mistakes, and less tilt.
So the edge isn’t the machine itself, it’s the mental clarity and consistency it allows.

I would think if one hangs during a hand, the person could time out and fold their hand, so yes if skill is equal then the next factor is technology.

Sometimes I experience lag, because the computer is running updates in the background, or whatever the reason might be. And this is definitely annoying and not at all conducive for delivering my A-game. Especially when multitabling you really need the computer to just do, what you ask it to do, without any noticeable lag.

Having a better computer doesn’t automatically make someone play better, but it can help them stay calmer because the game runs smoother.
The real skill still comes from the player.

And just as a joke: in IT life we say the biggest problem usually sits behind the keyboard. ;)

I think good computer for sure helps to a certain point. I have hard time focusing on WPT Global due to the client being extremely laggy despite having fairly good PC. I don't think I could cope with low end PC if other poker clients lagged like that.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has a problem with WPT, I have to be super careful about which other applications I'm running to make sure I get enough memory free. 18 GB on my M3 Macbook should be enough 🙃

Poker is not Counter-Strike, poker is not Dota, and it is not football. If your computer allows you to use Windows 10, then obviously your computer is sufficient for 95% of poker sites. Everything else depends on your skills, experience, discipline, and patience :)

There is a saying "a poor workman blames his tools." I t is how good or bad something is, it is how you use what you are given.

Those who have a powerful PC can play not only poker but also new cool computer games, which is definitely an advantage. As for poker, regardless of whether you have Intel or AMD, RTX 1660 or RTX 5070, in poker you will still be who you really are :)

Agree…lagging is not the only problem…I have had pocket aces three times, placed a nice raise, but not all in, only to have my computer/server disconnected and I end up losing a huge hand. My computer is 10 years old and doesn’t have a large capacity…
