Why exactly are bots not allowed?

Okay, some of you are surely rolling their eyes right now at my question but hear me out: I played against many different AIs which can be found in the game governor of poker or the free App Poker Offline and I found their play style not only very predictable but also easy to exploit. Once you figured out how they react to raises or bluffs above a certain threshold it feels like stealing candy from a toddler. They never learn or adjust their strategy and it quickly becomes very obvious you're not playing against a human.

Am I missing something? Why are bots so feared and frowned upon?

Makes sense to me. As long as the "bot" isn't one of those newfangled AI/learning ones.

Single BOT using default playing style can be figured out.
The issue is BOTs that are integrated with HUD DB or RTA (Real Time Assistant) so their play can be adjusted based on the opponent’s style. The player can get tired and make more mistakes obviously the BOT does not tire.

This thread brings up some interesting points and I find it interesting.
Having said that, if I wanted to play against a machine I would stick to Video Poker. ;)

Maybe there should be a system to flag bots. Other players can decide if they want to play against the bots.

I really feel that the use of bots is grossly unfair. These fat-assed dudes sit by the pool sipping their martini in the sun while we sit crouched over our laptop wracking our brains trying to figure things out. Whether the bot wins or not, it still spoils the game for the rest of us who play honestly.

Reputation.

Yes a good player might be able to beat a bad bot. Nut do you really think bad players are going to want to play at rooms where bots are allowed?

Plus they are against the spirit of the game, I want to play against humans rather than computers.

Because you're not playing against a person. You need a person in a seat that owns an account to play. A bot cannot own an account. Its also unfair for folks that play leader boards that can not play all the time.

The bots you probably have played are very simple ones. The ones over at Advanced Poker Training are pretty good on the highest settings but they don't use AI that can look at your hand history and learn your tendencies.

The AI bots out there can beat professional players so beginners would be destroyed and lose a lot of money if someone were able to program one of those for a site. The site would also lose creditably for allowing those things on their site.

Because bots can give advantage over players, there aren't that good bots or AI at this moment to beat good players. I think that bots can be made to beat microstakes, imagine bot running 24/7 micro stakes, that would make some money anyways.

Your question has a logic, it's even easy to detect a BOT, it's even easier to recognize a human and especially a bingueiro

A bot is only as good as it's program. If it doesn't "learn" it isn't AI.
No doubt there are thousands of programs (or bots) written that can play poker, but surely only a handfull that are really any good. Eventually AI will outperform man in everything if we let it. It's almost inevitable.

I remember one backgammon site that had nothing but house bots playing on it. They would make some very bizarre checker plays that humans would never make. Their cube handling was very good however and it was tough to make money on the site.
