As in previous years, thousands of poker players will descend on Las Vegas for the wsop. Beginning May 7th, US citizens planning a flight should know they can no longer get past security with only a state-issued driver's license but will need to obtain 'Real ID' or carry other forms of identification.

Interesting - a US driver's license isn't good enough (in the US) but a Canadian one is. Seems weird to me - is this something most Americans are already aware of?

It depends on the state. In Georgia we already had compliant drivers' licenses, so we don't have to get new ones.

I appreciate the information @Shells, although I am not American, I have already asked my lawyers to provide all the documentation so that I can travel with peace of mind.☺️😁

Are you really going? how much in BRL (Reais) are you planning to spend on costs with taxis, flights, hotel, and food? I'm asking so I can try to prepare myself in the future to go there :)

Sorry, it was just a joke, I would like to visit Vegas, but I believe it will only be in the next incarnation.😊

I wonder how the number of players will be affected at the WSOP events this year? :(
A friend of mine is no longer going (I had hopes of tagging along), & another friend of mine came home early this year (normally spends 5mos. down there every year).

It's amazing the things we take for granted in Canada that are issues in the United States, ID being one of them. We just went through a very short notice federal election - not a whimper about ID. No fanfare, no controversy - we just did it. Five weeks later we elected our Prime Minister and nobody doubts the validity of the results.

I wish that were true and I would've thought they were... until I saw some posts on my stepson's social media. Yup... conspiracy theories abound. I couldn't believe it and was extremely annoyed (< okay perhaps that's not a strong enough description for how I was REALLY feeling). Attempting to have him see (or even look at) things differently is like expecting a wall to carry on a conversation. Pathetic :(
So what I'm getting at is... 'they are out there' (and I mean they are actually really out there). Can you guess which province they reside in? This was the first time he's ever voted in his life (35yrs. old) and the list of fake news/garbage he spouts off is truly incredible. It's sad & a bit scarey

.....I'm curious to see how this ID business and the airline situation and the travel situation and the economy is going to influence

wsop turnout, which is the least of the current problems but doesn't sound like fun dealing with any of that to me😎...

I assume you're talking about Alberta. I've spent a lot of time in Calgary and Edmonton. I see two huge, thriving cities. Sure they have their issues, like all large cities. I see thriving tourist communities in the mountains. I see a strong oil industry. I see Alberta beef ranching. Overall Alberta seems a testament to the good life for everyone who chooses to accept it, and a LOT do. I have no idea what there is to get upset over. I guess that's what social media is for, and admittedly I'm not a big consumer of that. Maybe I'm deaf, dumb and happy, and maybe I like it that way. :) But I don't really think I've got this that wrong.

But your stepson voted. Nobody told him he couldn't vote. Nobody made him jump through hoops to do it. His vote counted. That's democracy.

I'm pretty sure I did a poor job at making my point. :(
