Hi everyone,
I wanted to share an interesting/crazy hand I just played in a Natural8 Short Deck freeroll and get your thoughts on the Villain's bet sizing.
I had K♠ T♥
Board: A♠ J♥ T♣ A♥ T♠
Preflop, Flop, and Turn were all checked around. Going into the river, the pot was tiny (only about 9 BB).
Then on the river, Villain suddenly open-shoves all-in for 43.6 BB! I obviously snapped him off with my Tens full of Aces. Villain showed Q♥ 8♠ for a busted straight draw (Queen high).
This got me thinking about his strategy. The risk/reward ratio here is just terrible—risking almost 44 BB to win a 9 BB pot. Personally, I think if he had bet small (like 1/2 pot), it would have looked so much more credible and scary. A massive overbet shove like this in an unraised pot just screams pure desperation or a busted draw.
What do you guys think of his play? Do you ever use massive overbets to bluff in spots like this, or do you agree that smaller, precise sizing is much more believable?
