Studying poker is important, but sometimes it feels like players focus so much on theory that they stop trusting their own decisions at the table. Do you think there is a point where too much studying can actually hurt your natural game or confidence?

Hmm, this is a good question, but I think this kind of thoughts just come to our heads because we may not study the game in the right way...

Sometimes I see myself doing things I would never do just because I'm not sure what I really should do, like: "Are my thoughts correct or am I tripping?".

So I don't really think the problem is studying too much; maybe, the problem is studying too less or even studying with the wrong methods and with bad sources.

I think that’s a really good point. Sometimes too much information from different sources can actually create confusion instead of clarity, especially if the ideas conflict with each other. I also agree that studying the right way matters more than just studying a lot. In my opinion, the best learning comes from combining theory with real experience at the tables, so you can understand why certain concepts actually work in practice.

What I do is take screenshots of 4-5 important hands that I lose during the day, then when I have time I study them and think about what I did wrong or what I did right, most of the time it has worked for me, because either way the same situation comes up again.

A good method, but maybe throw in a couple you win too so you see a more representative mix - maybe you won but not for reasons you expected

That actually sounds like a really good habit. Do you mostly review big losing hands, or do you also study hands that you won but still feel were played incorrectly?

Studying is so important for my game, the more I do it the more questions I want answers to. It’s like a lifetime of nonstop learning for me. I have 30 years experience with casino poker and I still love the process of study. I study the hardest 4 months before the wsop in June, that way when it’s game time it’s so much easier and enjoyable to play. Good luck all!

mainly those with big losses or hands where my game strategy that I'm implementing didn't work out

A brain tired from studying cannot process information effectively in fast-paced gaming sessions, which leads to frequent errors.

I think the same. When the brain gets overloaded with too much information, it becomes harder to make clear decisions during the game, especially in fast-paced situations. Sometimes taking a break and keeping things simple can actually help more.

I think studying too much can be harmful, it depends a lot on how you do it.
When you absorb a lot of different things, you can get a little confused at the table and start thinking too much instead of simply playing. This has already happened to me.
Now I do it differently... before playing, I take a quick look at something, like 5 minutes at most, just to get in the mood. Nothing too complex.
After I finish playing, that's when I review some hands and study more. I avoid studying a lot before playing because I don't want to start already tired.
