American Pharoah Wins the Triple Crown!

After 37 years with no Triple Crown winner - American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes to take the Triple Crown today.

It was awesome to watch - such a beautiful horse and he won it fairly easily.

Victor Espinoza was the jockey - was really happy for him.

Did anyone else watch it?

Sure did. Made the kid watch it too since I was his age the last time it happened.

My good feeling kill buzz was killed when I read a FB post from one of my friends about how most of these horses will end up being butchered and sold for food.

Can than posssibly be true?? These magnificent horses who are so beautiful and talented - and cost millions of dollars - are worth nothing after they are finished with racing? I find that hard to believe.

Maybe she meant all the horses that don't make it and aren't worth that much. I would like to think these horses are like pets.

Am I being ignorant?

By the way this friend is a life long horse owner and horse lover with a lot of time spent around horses etc and is not just a dumb FB poster - that is why it concerned me so much.
