Fck me...... I missed all dat shiz on b/s US sports v football ffs!
Like the way all the US guys came out the woodwork to enter the cash game thread at that point.
That's 'cause we get SO tired of all the Europeans telling us how great their sport is. It isn't. And, how we simply MUST love it like everyone else. No, we don't.
True story.... 3-4 years after I graduated high school my school tore down their baseball complex, moved the baseball games to the city parks, and installed a bunch of soccer fields where the baseball diamonds used to be. The community was pissed. According to the school board and the "powers that be", this was because soccer was the fastest growing sport in the US (supposedly) and "in a few years it will be bigger than any of the traditionally American sports". That was in the early 80s.
Today, high school baseball is still played at the city parks and all those newly-installed soccer fields..... have been allowed to grow-over and have largely been abandoned as property that the school has no use for.
Soccer is not and will not ever be a mainstream sport in the US. We get tired of hearing how its so great and the sport of the future. It isn't and its not.
It's kind of odd to me that its so important to everyone else that we accept soccer. You never see threads saying that Europe MUST accept American football. Why is it so important to the rest of the world that we accept their sport? We have no interest in it. Get over it. Go enjoy your sport, I'll enjoy mine.
