Creativity is kind of nice idea,but without discipline game will end pretty quickly. I guess poker may look like a creative game, with all the bluffs, tells and all-ins, but in reality it is about mastering self-control. Discipline in poker means you know how to make the correct decisions over and over again. Creativity has it's art, but I think it is just an extra spice. In the end poker is about who made the fewest stupid mistakes.

I would say there is a lot of more discipline in Poker. Calculating your odds depending on the flop and how many players are at the table. If creativity is to be regarded as playing wild and bluffing all over the place considering that you studied the players at your table, then - and only a very good player can bluff in a right way - still - he needs to be disciplined - he can't call and/or raise everything - for example if you have KQ and the flop is 578, you need to fold if you get raised in any case. If a poker player is not disciplined - he is not a Poker player. So this question I think has a very clear answer to it as far as I am concerned.

Its kinda like in the show Cobra Kai, if you combine discipline(Cobra Kai) with creativity(Miyagi- Do) you get the best of both worlds.
If you can play the same hand multiple different ways you become much more difficult for your opponents to figure out.
But if you stray too far in either direction your results will suffer.

Discipline is important in poker, as it is the foundation for increasing profits (win rates), and creativity is a tool for maximizing profits in various conditions

You can be disciplined and creative at the same time. The main thing is that creativity does not contradict your discipline, and then I think you will have no problems

For me it’s really a mix of both. Without discipline things can go off the rails pretty fast, but playing like a robot only gets boring and predictable.
Right now I’m focusing more on discipline, because I tend to get too creative at the wrong moments 😅 Once the fundamentals are solid, creativity feels more like a choice instead of a mistake.
So for me: structure first, then freedom.

Discipline is the foundation, without it even the most creative player will torch their edge. Poker rewards repeating correct decisions, managing variance, and avoiding ego driven mistakes far more than flashy plays.
That said, creativity still has a role once discipline is in place. It is not about random bluffs, but about adapting lines, exploiting specific opponents, and breaking patterns when the situation calls for it.

Patience is definitely what has saved me the most money. Overvaluing marginal hands just because you're bored or the cards aren't going your way.Basically, if you let completely unimportant things that happened in previous hands influence how you play your current hand, it's almost impossible to get out of the game with money.

At the stakes the majority plays it's about discipline, metal toughness, patience and bankroll management. It takes zero creativity and zero deep thinking to beat micro's and low stakes online poker. In fact creativity and deep thinking at micro and low stakes can and most likely will cost one his entire bankroll.

Poker requires discipline for punctuality, as creativity depends on each player on how to assimilate the changes that usually happen within the plays, for me it is creative to bluff from time to time, when I see the options of waiting for two cards that will favor me, that is, climbing or coloring.
