Anywhere discipline, focus and calculations are needed, alcohol is a bad idea. So obviously bad for poker too.
But good for your opponents :)

It affects me very negatively.
When I end up mixing alcohol + poker I end up thinking slower and end up showing a looser personality. I can't focus on essential spots to maintain my tournament.

At least for me alcohol and poker and just -EV.
But I know people who do well with this mix. I think it varies from person to person.

a very bad mixture for me because I always lost when I was even a little drunk because you start not to think about risks and you are not afraid and fear is necessary in poker to cause patience and caution and alcohol does not make you feel fear

It’s a delicate balance. Up to 3 beers I can play with a different confidence and awareness of what’s happening on the table. After that it gets a little sloppier every sip.🤢

One of my favourite times to play, is late on a Friday night, when people have been out drinking, and come home, and play poker. It's helpful in tournaments, but cash games are the best for this.

I don't drink alcohol playing poker so it doesn't affect me at all.
In fact, I only drink wine when accompanied by an excellent pasta with meat and pudding for dessert. :)

I do not drink enough for alcohol to have any negative effect and for the most part I do not drink while playing. I have had a double Lagavulin with just a splash of water to open it up, at the start of the game and another if it runs over two hours just because I enjoy it and to set the mood.

If I’m playing for large sum of money then no alcohol involved. For smaller games nothing wrong with having a few.

Alcohol turns off the brakes) You play more relaxed, often thoughtlessly. A positive result depends only on your luck. It is better not to mix the game and alcohol)

maybe

Playing live people like to see others drinking. I have red hair and a high tolerance for alcohol. I also like it. ;). When they think your drunk they try and make moves. Really funny sometimes.

if you are just enjoying the game and a drink, its fine, but if you are serious and want to win, do not drink!

Hi Friend.

Being good at this is about making good decisions even when you're emotionally down, so I guess even with a few too many drinks, if you're good at it, you'll be able to make the right decisions.

I like it for live games, but tend to lose concentration when I'm playing online.
I mean it is very person dependant. Find out what works for you!

This is not the first topic about alcohol and poker, and every time I will be categorical, alcohol and poker are incompatible, even when you play for fun and just to relax. Alcohol can not give the desired effect from the game, perhaps after a long session it will be possible to skip a glass of whiskey, but not during the game.

Is it a good or bad mix?

I have met all kinds over the years while playing poker, alcohol seems to be a popular drink in my local casinos (Scotland) while at the table.

Is a few drinks fine? To maybe calm the nerves? Is there a limit you go to, before you say that's enough? Is it more for social reasons or can alcohol, actually, bring you out of your shell and make you play a more aggressive game?

What are the pro's and con's?

Alcohol doesn't go with anything, wait a minute, it does, it goes with disgrace.:(

I believe that there are no advantages in alcohol for poker. It dulls thinking and reaction. I never play drunk for money.
