Genetics…my mother was an avid poker player…my mother went into labour during a poker game…play was interrupted when her water broke, and a few hours later, I was born. Rumour has it that I came out with a pair of aces. No wonder I started playing poker instead of going to my classes in university…no Texas Hold’em back then (1972)…7 card stud was the norm, with variations like “Black Chicago”, “Kings with the ax and one-eyed Jacks”…also some acey-deucey and “Guts”. Didn’t do well in school…didn’t do well at cards, but now I play for fun and entertainment…gotta do something in retirement in between medical appointments.

Wow! Sounds like we have quite a number of similarities.
My mother was an avid poker player too. She always made sure that whenever the family got together on holidays, there'd always be some chips & a deck of cards on the table after dinner. We'd play at many other times as well, including with my friends from the neighborhood when we were all just 8 to 10yrs. old. My Mom loved to bluff them and when they'd show up to our house she'd be sure to ask them all "I hope you brought your pennies with you?"

From the age of 10 to 13 we played some pretty big games. A couple guys had paper routes, some of us cut lawns, caddy at the golf course, shovel driveways, sell t-shirts at concerts at the C.N.E., and we'd be happy to bring all of our money to the games.

As a teenager we played at one of my friend's houses. His father took trips to Vegas a few times each year (probably more than a 'few' but this is what he told them) and they had a room in their home that was turned into a bit of a casino. They had a craps table, black jack and Poker. And one bay in their garage was turned into a pawn shop. (you could get some chips for your bike, skateboard or any sporting equipment you might want to part with). Their older brothers would play and their father was there playing most of the time too. I don't know why we assumed we stood a good chance there because I don't recall EVER walking out a winner at those games. I guess I figured it was mostly luck back then.

I quit playing in my early twenties, vowing to never play the game again but the tv commercials hitting us all 24/7 sparked my interest again. (AbsolutePoker, UltimateBet, Fulltilt Poker, and pokerstars to start with). I made a couple deposits, found a poker forum to join that held a ton of league games (Railbirds), and then also found Cardschat shortly after.

I started playing poker about 7 years ago, in 2018. My colleague at work often played, and I watched. Gradually, I understood the basic aspects of the game and started playing in freerolls. I regret that I didn't dare to start playing earlier

I started playing poker eight years ago. I started because I always loved card games, and poker was something new for me, something I was missing. I started and I don't regret it. Poker not only gives me pleasure from the game, but also significantly improves my financial situation
