Womens' Intuition?

This is for all the ladies out there.

Have you gotten a crappy pocket hand, and decided on your gut to just go ahead and play it, despite knowing that you're crazy for doing so? I find there are times when it's almost like a voice in my head going, "Call, call!" when logically I know I should fold and that no one in their right mind would ever play it. When I do, baM! I've got the nuts. When I ignore it, I am usually sorry. It's so weird because it only happens every so often...any thoughts?

yep. does happen sometimes. or when the flop isn't even down and they keep raising and you keep calling, until you just say screw it and go all in, and ya win, lol

Oh yeah. I had 6-3 o not long ago, in middle position, and something just said, "Call it." Then something else said, "You're nutty to call this hand," but I did just the same. Flopped a sixes full of threes boat.

And I agree with you, that only happens once in awhile, but I'm trying to learn to pay more attention when I get that strong of a feeling about a hand.

If you put all the numbers, statistics, and analysis aside I'm sure good instincts are key to any succesful poker player. An example, you're in a tourney getting lousy cards and you need to start building the stack. You've made assumptions about the other players at the table and how they perceive you. When do you play that 7-2o like it's the nuts? Do you call with the marginal hand because you feel the river is coming? I've played poker for over 30 years (only a few months on-line) and I can truthfully say my instincts have made me more money than all the statistics in the world.

I wouldn't say it is instincts pre-flop, more along the lines of hoping and wishing for luck. The instincts come from knowing what your opponents hold, what they are going to do. To try to have instincts that these 2 rag cards will win pre-flop is just getting lucky when and if those rags do win.

I think women play better poker than men.. I guess it's cuz they're more relaxed and card conscious as compared to men. Guys sometimes just play aggressively for no use. Haven't met a woman who plays too aggressively yet.

Maybe I'm wrong and guys do play better?!

I'm sure you remember the times when you get the nuts a lot more than the times when you call with crappy cards and fold on the flop. Everyone gets feelings about cards, men and women. I'm a guy and one time I just decided to play a crappy hand because I had a 'feeling' and I caught trips on the flop. Its not usually smart, but its fun when you get a feeling and you hit the nuts or a great hand.

Crippler may have something...you remember the times when you get that gut feeling, call with nothing and flop the nuts...what you may be forgetting is the 95% of the time you call with nothing and end up with nothing. It is very similar to when I told my son that I ALWAYS LOSE with pocket Kings...he suggested that I write down on paper every KK hand I get and record the results. Over the next few months, I recorded over 50 KK hands and found that I won 75% of them...now, here's the problem, which caused my perception. Many of the hands I won were nothing pots, often just the blinds...but when I lost, I lost big after raises and reraises. In effect, I lost more money in the 25% losses than I won in the 75% wins...my point being that the perception of this special intuition or gut feeling may be skewed to the positive, when the actual stats may tell a different story.

Speaking of me, I don't call it intuition (although the meaning is the same). I have this: a awl in my ass that periodically wakes up and pokes me, saying, come on, call! Are you have 72 mismatched? It doesn't matter! You'll get this piece!🤣

Male here. I think it's called gut feeling/instincts most humans have them. Some people have a better/stronger gut feeling/instincts then others. While others have almost zero instincts/gut feelings. I typically always listen to mine no matter the situation they have saved me from harm and likely life more then once. Whether at the poker table, in business or just in everyday real life.

100% I listen because I am sick of not listening and not winning I rarely get it wrong too PLUS I find that it helps me out with people who think I am a donkey get lots of calls after I make such a move

If we could keep this between us, that would be awesome. I do not want too many of my sneaky moves to get out there. I also think men have it. I have always wondered why it is called Women's intuition. Maybe it is because we are quicker to follow our hearts/intuitive side.

I have the same thing, Tammy! But most of the time I trust my intuition. I don't like math, so my style of poker is based on intuition and psychology. Of course, there are other important aspects (like tournament tactics).

HAHA! WOW! This is a blast from the past. I do have to say that my game has evolved justtttt a bit. I don't rely on intuition to tell me what to play. I do have a more sound method and strategy. Haha! That said, you do have to take into account all info and reads on players to help make your decisions at the table. Sometimes the info/intel you have gathered might steer you in a less than conventional direction, based on your instincts and reads.

Mostly online, but can definitely apply to live - maybe even more so. I've found that playing live, it is easier to present a "persona" to the table, and easier to observe player tendencies. For both, you really need to pay attention to hands, even those you are not in, and pay attention to the action at the table.
