Hi everyone! I'm new here and recently started playing freerolls on WPT Global. I'm still learning NLHE tournaments and would appreciate any beginner tips. Thanks!

In freerolls, the most creative player doesn’t win — the most disciplined one does.
Play only strong hands: AA–TT, AK, AQ, AJ, KQ.
Sophisticated bluffs don’t work.
Your goal is to survive, not to show that you can play fancy.
Play more hands on the button and cutoff; be very conservative UTG.

Tournament stages:
Early: tight and patient.
Middle: steal blinds when stacks get shorter.
Bubble: apply maximum pressure on medium stacks.
Final table: watch who is trying to ladder up and exploit it.

Control tilt (accept variance and keep playing solid).
Don’t try to “win” the freeroll:
First: make the money.
Then: build a bankroll.
After that: move up to the micro stakes.

As a beginner, I'd like to highlight two pieces of advice.
1. Familiarize yourself with the GTO charts to get a rough idea of what hands you want to play, especially cold calls and 3-bet pots. If your hand has less than 0.2 EV/100, you don't need it. Get rid of those stereotypes about the cutoff/button having to open a lot of hands (especially in freerolls, where people "defend" 100% of their range in the big blind and almost 70%+ in the small blind) – without understanding postflop, this will only take away your chips time and time again.
2. Learn to stay calm and manage tilt. It's best to prepare yourself for the worst right away—your AA will be destroyed time and again after a 4-bet by some 74-suited hands, simply because the player felt like playing that way, even though they haven't put in a cent and aren't risking anything. If you can't overcome this and come to the realization and acceptance that this can and will happen, your mental capacity may not be able to handle it.
I wish you the best in your endeavors, and may luck smile upon you.🖤

The best tip is to not waste time on freerolls. Deposit $100 and start practicing with $1-2 tournaments or SnGs while taking our 30-day course:

Play cards in freerolls. Forget bluffing and try not to play every hand.

Hmm, play lots of them and don't get frustrated when you bubble, like I used to.

Don't get upset about players shoving all-in repeatedly with any two cards during the first level, that's what freeroll players do and there's no way to stop them. If you can bust a bunch of them and get a bunch of chips then great, but if you don't then just play normally and try to use the game as a learning experience.

Try to find private tournaments, fewer participants, less variance, bigger prizes for greater profit. To succeed, you need to adapt to the specifics of free tournaments and learn to avoid common mistakes. Most freeroll participants play recklessly, as there's nothing at stake except time. This factor determines the main differences between freerolls and low-stakes tournaments.

Consider that for players who are just starting out, freerolls are a very good option to learn without risking real money. In addition to practicing patience, it helps a lot to understand the importance of selecting the right starting hands, since at the beginning many players play too loose. I think that focusing on position and avoiding unnecessary clashes at the beginning of the tournament can make a big difference in getting to prizes
