Aggressive players

Most of my low-stakes cash game sessions seem to have at least one loose-aggressive player at the table. They raise often, call wide, and put pressure on almost every street. Sometimes it feels profitable, but other times it creates a lot of variance and tough decisions. I’ve been trying to tighten up my starting hands and focus more on value betting instead of bluffing. It definitely requires more patience than playing against tighter opponents. How do you usually adjust your strategy when facing loose-aggressive players in cash games?

I adjust my strategy exactly the way you describe. Against LAGs, I try and tighten up and bluff much less (since the goal with a bluff is to get the opponent to fold better hands but this opponent isn't the type to fold to a bluff). It can be frustrating but over the long term you can make money off these types of players. Of course, if it is getting frustrating, you can always leave the table and go to another one. That's the joy of a cash game.

As you wrote, you have to be patient against them and if you are not unlucky, patience will pay off. Anyway, one of the main basic qualities in poker is patience.

I rarely play cash games. But if I do play and see aggressive opponents, I just give them the initiative and wait for a promising hand. All you need to do is wait for the right moment, assess the odds, and take a chance.

When an aggressor who's used to 3-betting frequently sits to your left, you need to adapt your preflop ranges. The most common mistake is to start 3-betting them back, playing a wide range of hands out of position.One of the most effective weapons against an aggressor is slowplay—the slow play of strong hands. Such players often take the initiative and, after raising preflop, continue to make continuation bets on every street. If you constantly bet and raise with your strong hands, they may not get paid.

I've never been an aggressive player. I hate players who always play aggressively on every hand.

There is weakness in aggression. If you watch the game closely, you will find a moment that will allow you to knock out your opponent.

!! Aggression is a key part of poker to create value. If you keep folding when opponents are 3 bet you then they will keep doing it. Mix it up , make some 4 bet bluffs yourself with good equity hands that arent the nuts and find out how many people are 3 bet bluffing out there! Its what makes poker fun is that everyone can play how they want but not all plays are profitable in the long run. Experience will teach you that! Good luck staying profitable people

Against loose-aggressive players I usually tighten my range, avoid marginal bluffs, and focus on value betting strong hands. I let them hang themselves instead of trying to outplay them. Patience is key.

Aggression is definitely a key component of poker, however as mentioned above by almost everyone, the best strategy is to just wait for them to hang themselves, eventually you will get a strong hand, and have the ability to simply stack them.

Tightening your starting range and focusing strictly on value betting rather than bluffing is the textbook counter-strategy against a loose-aggressive (LAG) player at low stakes. You simply can't bluff someone who doesn't like to fold
One additional adjustment I highly recommend is paying attention to seat selection. If possible, try to sit directly to their left so you have absolute position on them and can see their action first. Also, since they love to apply pressure, this is the perfect time to incorporate more traps into your game. Check-calling with your strong made hands (top pair or better) and letting them empty the clip with their bluffs is incredibly profitable against this specific player type.

Everyone has their own playing style, but I'm not usually aggressive in tournaments. I've been able to go far by playing more passively; I tend to wait for good hands and then make my plays. But I respect those who play that way; in the world of poker, anything goes.

Learn board texture and take in mind from which position they raised from. You have to learn assign ranges. For example if he is raising preflop from UTG or UTG+1 his range usually is alot more high card heavy. Lets say you call his range from SB the flop is 258 rainbow and he bets. I would re-raise this board sometimes cause my range is more likely to connect with this board, you also have to take in mind that you have a if this is a aggresive thinking player, then this is probably profitable if you dont do this to often.

I think all depends on tournament phase. Early stages it's ok to play more passively, but you need to be aggressive as game goes on, otherwise blinds kills you

The key to playing loose aggro players is to learn to range refine post flop. When we tighten up we have to hope for a cooler to win but the aggro player can win many small pots as we overfold and then play AA KK cracker hands vs us on 2/3 of dealt boards that we do not have good coverage on. AA AK is not great on any board below 9xx when V want to play for stacks.
