AKs AKo stats

Recently, I moved up in stakes. I've had to go back down a couple of times, but recently made it back up to where I should be. But I've had a pretty nasty taste of variance, especially at the beginning. I've only played around 9k hands at that level so far. One of the things I've seen in my stats is that ace king is killing me......Everytime I have stacked with it, it seems I end up against 99+ and end up losing. I think there might be a problem with me overvaluing ak when it hits, but I'm playing it pretty much the way as at the lower limit. Its just 2nl and 5nl, so there shouldnt be that much of a difference as far as playing it goes. So far with aks im down 8.79, and with ako im down 29.80.....I just don't see there being that big of a difference with 2nl and 5nl..........its kinda frustrating...

Hmm, that is quite alot to be down with AK over only 10k hands at 5nl so would guess its likely more than just bad luck, though that could be alot of it over small sample. Post some of your AK hands in HA.

Over 15k hands at similar stakes this month my top winners ($/hand) are aa, kk, aks, qq, tt, ako. Only hand that down more than ~buyin with was a pp that was oversetted. I'm only playing for stacks with TPTK when more than 10% money went in preflop or against huge spewers.

...you've just moved from 2nl where a ton of players will stack off with TPNK or worse, maybe 5nl is where most players begin to realize any paired ace isn't golden so you're not getting it in against worse aces as often.

TpTk is more valueble on lower stake tables. It also loses value the deeper the stacks are.
And 3'rdly 9k hands isnt so much.

AK is great, but I have all sorts of trouble with AQ.

AK is just the same as any hand before the flop or at least that's the way i see it. I rember one time late in a tourney I got AK and went heads up against pocket 2s both of us going all in before the flop for about 30k in chips. He won just with one pair.

I'm the same as you. AK whether is it suited or not, I am able to either pull it through or get away without much of a problem, but AQ has been killing me this month.

With either AK, I guess the biggest thing to realize is that there are so many times when you should let it go before the flop, as hard as it is for some of us, it's the right thing to do. One question that I have for you dcor is, have you looked to see how tight your opponents are that you are stacking off against with it? Like if someone with a VP$IP at like 7%, I would ditch AK with any aggresion pre/flop, even post-flop if they showed any. Another thing is maybe you aren't pushing it hard enough pre-flop. If you are just betting 3xBB and those hands are calling, try upping it to maybe 5or6xBB and see what happens.

I'm 3bb + 1 per limper...so 2 callers (not including bb) = 5xbb....also everytime i stack with ak, it has been against a player who has a high 3bet percentage......even if I only have 45 hands on a player, and their 3bet% is like 10......I think I should be stacking.....
Also Im cbetting on dry flops, against high fcbet fold %'s....

Secondly, I'm getting donked on the turn with people hitting a set etc....I mean, I cant exactly shove on the flop with tptk with ak can I.....well should I against the high wtsd percentage people....

I might be playing them a little bit too aggressively....which might be part of my problem.....

I see what you're saying. Just curious, what is your VP$IP usually? Do you think that maybe they are thinking that you are playing too loose aggressive and aren't giving you credit for your hands so they are taking theirs' further because of it? This might not have anything to do with it, I am just trying to think of scenarios.

i play about 18/16.....yes....i keep a high cbet....not at 100 obv....but high

At 18/16 you wouldn't be considered loose, so I couldn't necessarily not giving you credit for hands, but with the high C-Bet, they are undoubtedly thinking that you are going to do it with damn near everything whether you hit or not. How high is your fold to 3-bet? both at flop and turn?

AK and AQ aren't the easiest hands to play. I have some trouble with them. Recently, I have been raising relatively small amounts pre-flop with them. Maybe, min raise or 2 and half times the big blind. My reason for this is that while these hands like pretty, they are only ace high, so there's no need to get completely carried away with the hands.
