Bad etiquette? Live cash game.

I’ve been playing quite a bit of cash game lately. One thing I’ve noticed is when it comes to showdown no one wants to show their cards unless they have a monster. Is it bad etiquette to force the players OOP/bettor to show/muck their hands before you reveal your cards? (You have medium hand strength)

No, its not wrong or out of the ordinary at all. Its common to showdown based upon position or action. For instance, the bb and cutoff can be involved in a hand and if the co bets the river and bb calls - the co should showdown first as that is how the last action sequence went.

You must show two cards to win, but catching your opponent with their pants down is part of the game and if you called them down, you have a right to see their hand...after all, you paid for it

Thats my outlook and the general etiquette rule of thumb as far as i understand the game.

If you call someone they have to show. If they have you beat there is no reason to show... just lay it down.

I always show. No matter if I can beat the other person or not.

The problem is people don't realize when their bet gets called they should show either way. The caller has no obligation to show and can decide to muck if beat.

The player who acted first at the river/showdown has got to show first. If villain bets and you called, he's got to show first. If he checks and you check behind him, he's going to show first because when he checked is like he's betting "zero" and you call his "zero" bet, so he's got to show first. Now, if he checks and you bet and he calls, you got to show first.

To make sure all is clear and no confusion: If villain from EP checks at the showdown and you want to also check too,.., what you do is say: "call !!" (you are calling his "nothing zero" bet). So, he shows first for sure.

Exactly. Some people arnt trying to have poor etiquette or a bad attitude at all, they just get emberassed if someone calls their bluff and thats ok - i used to be embarrassed too. But if you paid to see it on the river i will show it to you and if you caught me bluffing, thats ok too. Its all part of the game we play.

Anyhow, as mentioned if you call a player down they have to show you their hand - and remember, it takes 2 cards to win.

Yeah I know that situation, no one wants to show, especially not the loosing players. That is, why the dealer should muck folded hands, before anyone can ask to see that hand. That`s kind of the dealer 101, "Muck folded hands at once!!!"
