How Much Chips You Bet To Test The Players

I would really like to analyze how much money someone should put in to test what the other player is on. Obviously it has to be a good amount in comparison to the pot in order for the person to be put on the spot. A lot of the time i put in half the pot but this might be too much, especially since i could be committing myself into loosing even more money. I would really like to hear your opinions on the matter and your respectful analysis on the matter.

when i make a testing bet or continuation bet i wil most of the time make it just over half the size of the pot, i always make sure not to bet to much because you could end up commiting yourself.

To make a bet test ... first noticed the adversary hands of a few games.
Usually affixed to 3 times the big blind, so that we lose not compromise
my game and continue playing normally

Betting half the pot is in most cases the best bet, otherwise you might get caught or pot commited so you do the math and choose the best time to test your opponents.

Most of the books say somewhere around 1/2 and 3/4 of the pot for a probe bet. This is post flop....preflop, usually 3x bb if you're going to raise.

I like the standard 3x the BB. its a pretty safe bet and hopefully if ur not ss then ur not pot committed

im with homer if i have a good preflop hand ill be 3x bb then after the flop ill bet 3x bb again to see where i stand if i get reraised ill work out from there if i think i have the best hand

In "Harrington on Holdem", Dan writes that Continuation Bets (When you didnt hit the flop, but want to represent a strong hand) should be fairly bigger than "Probe Bets" (When you want to test what your opponent is holding)

First, a continuation bet is when YOU were the AGRESSOR preflop and everybody checked to you. A probe bet is when the preflop-agressor (NOT you) checks to you. So you want to find out where you are.

For continuation bets, he writes that you should bet around half the pot to pot-size. Just to chase anyone with weaker hands out, and dont give them the right odds if they want to draw.

For probe bets, a little less than half the pot.. Because you can easier let it go when you got check-raised and didnt invest that much. And you dont commit yourself to the pot.

I also like to bet half the pot, I find that effective and safe. But sometimes I know what the other player has by the style they play, so I'll just trap them...some players you just know they have nothing, because they are super loose.

is pretty easy whan the blind is high when the blind is low like 20-40
you cant bet to much and if you bet like 120 any chip leader cant call you with a crap hand because is not so much for him

Here is a great idea for continuation betting. This is obviously based on when you have air. But of course you need to balance your range for cbetting between made hands, draws and air depending on the flop texture. Assume these statements are all heads up on the flop.
If you bet the full pot for it to be immediately profitable you need villain to fold 50% of the time.
If you cbet 3/4 pot you need villain to fold 42.86% of the time to be profitable
If you cbet 2/3 pot you need villain to fold 40% of the time.
If you only cbet 1/2 pot you only need villain to fold 33.33% of the time for your cbet to be profitable.
I believe however that with 100+bb stacks you should be cbetting either 2/3 or 3/4 pot to be able to build large pots with your big hands.

It varies on the player, situation etc. but I usually like to bet about 1/2 to 3/4 of the pot especially if it's checked to me on the flop.

I think it really depends on the villans play style and the size of the pot. I will put in anything from 2x the BB to half the pot. Generally I am around 3x-5x BB.

I usually do around 25%/33% depending, but I do also try to mix it up a bit, every now and then, again depending on the pot.
