When to set mine post flop?

I generally set mine against two or more players with small pockets preflop and go for the value if the action continues post flop with appropriate odds. I would love to get ideas on how to go about it in a decent way.

Set mining is a preflop concept only. The probability of making a set postflop is about 8%, so if you haven't hit your set on the flop then you will basically NEVER have the odds to continue post flop.

The rule of thumb is not to risk more than 5% of your stack to set mine and to play fit-or-fold poker postflop.

Because the chances of making your set is small I only set mine in cash games against players with 80BB+ stacks or when its multiway. Against good players who don't pay you off very often I've virtually stopped set mining against these players with 22 33 44 in the SB when I'll be out of position. You should still set mine against weaker players who don't understand what a flat from the SB against a single opening raise and to a lesser extent the BB means.

It can be frustrating in a multi way flop when you fold to a cbet and ur set peels on the turn.

I'll add that sometimes it's best to play aggresive if there are not too many players in the game.
In those cases, a lot of times you don't even need the set, a pair is enough.
