What would you do if you won, for example, a million dollars playing poker?

Would you invest it? In what, and why do you think it would be profitable?

Would you just save it and spend it little by little? What would you spend it on, and why save it?

Or would you simply buy everything you never had because you didn't have the money?
And how much money would you set aside to continue playing poker?

Imagine you win a big poker tournament and take home $1 million. What would be the first thing you would do with that money?
Would you invest most of it (for example in stocks, business, or real estate) to grow it over time? Or would you prefer to keep it safe and spend it slowly on things you enjoy?
Also, how much of that money would you keep as a poker bankroll to continue playing?
It would be interesting to hear how different players would manage such a big win.

After such a win, what would your next move be?
Would you keep grinding poker with a bigger bankroll and aim for even bigger results? Or would you step back, secure the money, and treat poker more like a hobby?
Personally, I think a big win can change the way you approach the game, because suddenly the risk feels very different.
I’m curious to hear how other players would handle a situation like that.

Pleasant fantasies :)
I would leave no more than $1,000 in my bankroll. That would be enough. I would invest everything else in securities, real estate and funds so that I could earn passive income.

Of course, I would withdraw most of it from my account and continue playing with some of it, because if someone likes to play, they will continue playing afterwards. Of course, you have to be smart, because a bigger win can make you feel confident and play more carelessly, but if you can continue playing the way you have been playing, you will be able to win bigger and bigger wins.

Let’s imagine you hit a huge score in poker — something like $1 million or more from a big tournament or online series.

It seems you are repeating yourself. Perhaps these two posts should be combined.

Personally, I’d try to be smart with it. I’d invest a good part of the money so it could grow over time, maybe in stocks or real estate. Another part I’d save and use slowly for things that improve my life travel, experiences, and helping family.
Of course, I’d also keep a portion as a poker bankroll so I could keep playing without risking everything I won.

A million bucks these days sadly isn’t a whole lot… between the wife and myself we pull in just under $500k and are still in debt (more money more problems) haha

That being said I’d invest the extra million…

Now if you were to give me 25 million haha now we would be buying some extra toys, and spending a lot more time on vacation.

The most logical thing would be to invest a large portion in some financial instrument that grows slowly each year but is very safe and unlikely to lose significant value from one day to another.

I would leave a small percentage for poker and for daily expenses, but the majority would go into investments.

If I won a million dollars playing poker, I’d probably try to be balanced with it. First, I would set aside a good portion for investments so the money can grow over time, maybe in things like index funds or real estate because they tend to be more stable long term.

I’d also keep a separate bankroll to continue playing poker without risking the main winnings. That way poker stays properly managed and doesn’t affect my financial security.

Of course I’d spend a small part of it on things I enjoy or experiences like travel, but I think the most important thing would be making sure the money lasts and continues to work for me in the future. ;)

15% 150,000 Poker Bankroll (same current stake or +1) Continue playing without pressure.
25% 250,000 Passive income (indices + real estate funds) Global ETF (like VWCE or S&P500), Brazilian FIIs and US REITs.
Average return 7-9% per year compounded = financial freedom in 10-12 years.
20% 200,000 Real assets (land + property for rent) Land in the countryside or small apartment for rent. Inflation hits, but bricks don't disappear and still generate rent.
15% 150,000 Active income generating asset (business or skill) Open a micro-course in poker, coaching software or invest in a friend who has a solid business (with a contract).
10% 100,000 Controlled fun (house, car, trip) Buy a nice apartment to live in (down payment), a brand new car (so you don't just dream about it), and 2-3 dream trips.

After that, handbrake on.

15% 150,000 Emergency fund + taxes 12-18 months of expenses + cushion for income tax and fluctuations.

Never again fear of real-life downswings.

Wow, with that salary! What are the limits you usually play in poker?

Of course, winning a million dollars is too sweet a dream for any poker player. I would invest the money I won in real estate and earn income from rent. I would keep about $100,000 for poker and other expenses. :)

I play around online, but I’ll play anything from $5-$10 tournaments to a couple hundred dollar tournaments on the weekends. Live I’ll buy in cash games for 5k or so!

That's the goal, good luck at your tables! Don't fall for off-table bets

If I won a million dollars from poker, I would probably invest a large part of it and keep a smaller portion as my poker bankroll. That way the money can grow over time while I still have enough to continue playing comfortably. I think having financial security outside of poker would also help reduce pressure at the table.
