Who has had experience with Live Poker or online poker, which is better?

What is better for?
You can win or lose anywhere.

Guess, online is better, time bank control is better, you can play anywhere, you can play more tables...

It depends on your perspective. As a recreational player, I like Live better to be able to look into opponent's eyes, see their reactions & watch the body language. Its a different jungle out there.

Hello I have played both but for me online poker is better because it allows me to play in my spare time. Because of my work I don't have that much time to play live

Both setting have there good and bad parts. I do love online games but will admit live is so much better.

The two have their different peculiarities, but I prefer to play online... the concentration is higher.

The live game is much more exciting.
The huge advantage of online gaming is that you can play multiple tables.
Or for example, put in a lot of hands playing 2 places on zoom, something that I couldn't do in live cash.
Professional players play a lot of tables, which is why in general the variance works much better.
Although I really don't like to play more than 2 tables, that's why I play zoom.
By playing fewer tables you can analyze your hands much better and you don't play as much automatically.

I started playing Live and went over to online during the Poker Boom.

For various reasons, I am now retired from poker and only play for fun.

But the only chance to be a professional (at least in the Western World) today is to play in Live Cash Games.

The ability to read people is a humungous edge if you have that ability. And you must not give any (or at least very few) tells yourself of course.

Live is more complex and thrilling
Online is much faster and straightforward

I think today for online play there is still the potential for earning a low wage from LSMTT's and a decent wage from MS MTT. I have friends who are & have been consistently been making $100k+ for the past 10-15 years. MTT's are the most profitable & softest format available 'online' although it is far from easy.
Live play I would agree with cash games.

I only played one live tournament and it is completely different from playing online.

In live tournament you will only play one table, it will take a while for your turn to arrive, you have to calculate stack values, pot values, this part is much more difficult than playing online.

I have played mostly on-line, but only because playing live is a little more expensive, I used to play a £5 buy-in at my local pub and have bought into games for £10 to £50 in some places, but You never get 25p or 50p games like you do on-line.
So it is all relative to what you want to gamble for, On-line I could play as many as 10 games a day, which would probably be impossible, playing Live, but the first thing you need to think about is why do I play so much, and the answer is simple, I enjoy playing for Fun!
I have made a little money playing on-line and I can prove that with my account balance which is also my bankroll, but never having made a deposit and building a Bankroll from Zero is the most gratifying part about on-line Poker for me.
Live games of course are different because you don't get the chance to play for free, they always incur some cost, but I can honestly say I have won more than I have lost, If I hadn't I would have given up years ago.
On-line I get to try different tactics I have read about and can experiment with, without it costing me too much, then I can put the experience to good use playing Live games, But the biggest difference between on-line and Live games is that Live games are more Social than On-line games, You don't get the same conversations On-line as you do in live events, and some of my best Friends I have made, were all made over a Poker Table, We understand that when we play we want to destroy each other at the table, taking each others chips, but when the game is over we laugh and buy each other drinks etc.

The "problem" with online MTTs is that if you don't work in teams and share the winnings the variance is ridiculous.

So over 10 years you will always have outliers on both sides.

And as you know bots, RTA, RTS, and other computer-assisted programs are becoming more and more common.

Add true AI assistance to the mix and poker online will soon be like chess online. No one will play it to earn money.

People will still play tournaments like they still play Casino games - but the edges will be extremely small even for the best.

So 10-15 years in the past say very little about just a few years in the future.

If your friends are smart enough to make more than 100k a year in poker - they should be smart enough to make even more in a different field.

Online Poker you can play naked, but in Live Poker not .

I do both and I much prefer to play live. Then you know who you are playing, easier to get tells. Its what the game is about. Online is so limited.

It seems to be a matter of convenience: do I want to play in my jammies, or do I want to get paid immediately?
We can also do it like this:
Online PROS: 1) able to play in the "privacy" of ones own living quarters.

2) the ability (and variety) to play at multiple tables/rooms at once (more hands per hour).

3) the range of buy-ins range from $0 to $1000+.

Online CONS: 1) having to wait for payment of winnings (in your hand).

2) lack of social aspect in most rooms.

3) possibility of connection/security/deposit/withdrawal issues.

Live PROS: 1) instant payment of winnings (most attractive aspect, imo).

2) live tells.

3) cardroom/casino amenities such as free drinks, promos/comps.

4) socially stimulating.

Live CONS: 1) limited to one table/game type.

2) waiting for a seat/table.

3) traffic/parking.

I think I covered the basics. Feel free to add any pros/cons that I might have missed.

Live poker is more fun for me. You can talk, you can see faces, you can read people.
The advantage of online poker is that you can use statistics and play on several tables.

the small stakes ring games at live casinos in California are full of crazy gamblers who toss chips around all day long . you will have to endure plenty of bad beats, and if you stay very cautious you may be bored . also the incredibly high rake and promotion drop will eat into any profits . if and when you run hot you can win tons of money ! almost all online ring games are way tougher , but you can play many, many tables or tourneys at your convenience. if you are really strong that certainly can be a good option.
