9 handed vs 6 handed tables

Hi everyone!

How do you adjust going from 9 handed tables to 6 handed or the other way around?
Where do you draw the line on folding some cards instantly.

Is there a big difference between the two? Should I focus on other stuff?

Any advice is welcome!

I tend to find you get more action 6 handed and can widen your range slightly. You'll be playing on the button and blinds a lot quicker / more so good opportunity to make a few plays.

It is usually recommended to start with 9 max tables and it is considered that 6 max is more difficult

I think it's about how many players you are facing in a hand. if its 2,3,4 or heads up its what should be key, in my opinion. But based just in numbers you would have to face less hands, so maybe opening up a bit is a correct approach. And also the blinds come at you faster, not necessarily in amount but in speed. You will have to post the BB every 6 hands instead of every 9.

Depends on what game you are playing. In PLO8 the 6 is easier than the 9. More cards are out on the 9.

The big difference

The big difference between 6 and 9 hand is your range. With less players the number of cards that you should open will increase.

I recommend you to search for articles that writes about the 6 handed style of play and if you have few experience on poker just try the 9 ring because is about them that most part of the books and articles written about.

play 6 max , you need to exactly know where is your money from
because, 6 max, hand speed is faster than full ring
so for good player who have relative edge, after large sample of hands will have more win, while weak player expect to loose more than full ring.

so if you thing you have edge, play 6 max, will I would say, if regardless of house rake, HU is the most profitable game.

I like 9 handed tables to give more time between the blinds. And to try to evaluate the players more. I am adjusting to 6 player tables... I think, 6 handed tables work in favor of a loose player. Well, until they get busted, pushin...

If you bore easily, generally you will see more hands at the six.

If I was an aggressive player, I would play 6 handed.

9 handed, you can survive more blinds if your bankroll is wimpy.

At online poker 8 opponents are better for me. In real-life poker 6 max is preferable

I think the 6-handed is more aggressive game, because the hand ranges are more wide. The advantage for me is, that you need to keep less long concentration. A disadvantage of course is, that there are less places paid.

You can play a lot tighter game on a full ring (9 handed). If you try to play a tight game 6 handed the blinds would really start to affect you (and people would just fold to your raises, the more action you give the more you get).

As with all things in poker it's always situational but the general rule is that more players = tighter range and less players = wider range.

Since I start playing I start of once in 6-max... I just started playing two months ago and read some things nut i think I need to learn more because i always stay break even and only lost time in micro limits due to my country situation if I make 10$ at day is a lot! so I though wow this is profitable but I don't I had play only a couple of 9-max although you get to play more hands before posting the blinds I think is a little harder I want to make the transition because it should be bigger pots also that other benefit of it so I think 9max is better but harder depend also of your type of play

The game at the 6-max table goes faster, more intensively and in a more aggressive style, than at the 9-max table. At a short table, you need to make quick decisions and play a wider range of hands. Tight game with a narrow range is not suitable for short tables.
9-max is good for beginners, who love the neat pace of the game. 6-max is suitable for players who already have experience in the game, are well versed in statistics and are able to adapt to their opponents.
