Do i just suck?

I'm starting to feel like i'm just a bad player. I could use some encouragement.
I just lost my whole bankroll the other night at the casino and am now trying to learn at 2nl on america's cardroom.
so far, after playing about 5 hours with $5 i paid my friend to transfer me, I have $2. I'm just feeling horrible and it's starting to affect my play.
I guess i'm looking for words of enocouragement as well as suggestions of how to improve my play.

I doubt you suck as bad as yhou think you do. Lasting 5 hours with only losing 3 dollars can be considered good if you're having a lot of bad variance. The big question is, how did you build your original bankroll to begin with? Were you playing tournys and then switched it up to cash games? Did you play a lot of SnG's? Were you playing at higher or lower stakes?

Every type of poker and every level of poker has different nuances that you have to play over time to get accustomed to. It may be that you're trying to fit your square peg into a round hole.

Unfortunately we all think that poker is easy and that that we are going to make money but its hard I have spent hours playing poker not to even get a pair. Just keep playing and hopefully your luck will change and mines too. GOOD LUCK

If you have $5 and your playing 2NL your not " playing poker" your just sitting down with 2.5 buy ins and hoping to catch cards..

maybe watch some twitch streamers they helped me with my game heaps, also study lots of options out there bud hope this helps.

Learn about ranges and exploitative spots is the biggest thing you could do

I think alot of people who are struggling financially are turning to poker with a few dollars (anything under 50) and hoping to become an overnight beast.

Helps to have 50 to 100 buyins. Otherwise it is playing with scared money.

And like a player above said or did not say, if you can play three hours without busting, that is a good sign of discipline The rake is the hidden element that we do not see, that silently takes chips off the tables. It is not the other players that is our enemy. It is the rake that taked hour after hour after hour.

It is no different than a sportsbook that takes your dollar bet and only returns 90 cents as your winnings.

Rule #1. Don't play on tilt. Your bad energy will translate to loses.
Rule #2. Poker is a marathon, not a sprint, be patient. Thats the test FOR YOU.
Rule #3. Remember, it's POKER. Your emotions don't matter, but your skill does. Learn to play and take time. Success takes time and faith.

You can do it. I use to lose ALL THE TIME. DON'T QUIT! Look at every penny as an investment into yourself. You learn and you get better.

I'm living with the same feeling! I have loose all my bankroll mwny times but also I have learned!

I think that the first mistake is not to have the right bankroll to a certain stake and the variance or the blinds eat your good cards and profit.

I'm still learning but... I want to tell you, guys, my little plan: I'm thinking to deposit 20-25$ to play in fast forwards tables 0.02$-0.05$ 6-max. And also play 0.5$ 9-max sng. What do you think about it?

To play 2nl you need $40+

You x20 your buy-in if you want to play 2nl. 2 x 20 = 40, so there is your mistake. Now we can't tell if you are bad poker player as you need to post your hand history to see how you play in certain situations.

You should always play with around 20+ buy-ins, because of the variance of poker, you might get bankrupted if you play with so little buy-ins. Once you lose with this little buy-ins, your playstyle might change and not favor you because you are afraid that you might lose the remaining money. So you should always have multiple buy-ins available for you to perform your best.

I made at least $500 playing home games/tourneys with friends before going to a real cash table. Started out literally playing with pennies and it slowly ramped up to regular 5/10c games, with the occasional 10/20c games which were very big at the time.
I went online very quickly but started losing almost immediately there so I kept it to a minimum. Which now is encroaching on $300...

At first try playing with money that will not push you, understand? Use only money that you can afford to lose.
Play at low limits, invest heavily in training and just focus on doing the right thing, without worrying about the immediate results of the play in question (losing or winning a pot)

If you are feeling horrible, take a step away from the poker for a few hours and give your head a chance to cool. Poker is always going to have upswings and downswings - you will get downswings, try not to take it too personally. Things will pick up!!!

It might be a good idea that you limit your games to low buy in’s in either 6 player sit & goes or low buy in’s on multi player tournaments.
Limit your play from multiple games in a short time frame if you are unable to control tilts from either bad beats or simply because ….. lol

I use to play only online since there was no casinos to play holdem near me. I happen to be traveling and stopped in to a $200 buyin game and immediately when I sat down I was pushed all in with AQ suit. charge was man up or walk. I put it out there and then won. I think I made the wrong move even though I won. thoughts

I am thinking playing more real games but feel like sharks are at the table and I am the fish so is this common or was this just a piranha taking advantage

If you want to play this game long-term you need to get used to that sick feeling. Embrace it. Let that nausea sink in so deep that you become immune to vomitous variance. No matter how good you are, or how well you are playing, that next card might just be the most unlikely one that felts you. Sometimes all you can do is laugh and move on to the next

Unfortunately this happens to everybody in poker. For every great run of cards or tourneys there will always be bad runs as well. Just last night I played a SnG and my first 4 hands all in a row were J10 suited, AK, KQ suited, and 1010. I was unable to get any big payouts off these hands and was card dead the rest of the SnG. Sometimes it's just best to step away for a few hours and come back rejuvenated.

It's like anything put in the effort and time and you'll get the rewards.I cant think of anything i was a natural at without practice.And i can't think of anything i practiced at that a novice could beat me at.

Poker takes alot of time and patience to learn....if u are just wanting to have fun learn and maybe make lil money too u can......U dont need 40x the buy in....buy in for what u wouldnt have a problem losing play it hard play it tight doesnt matter its not scared money if u dont care if u lose it....Make sure to have FUN winning or losing....attitude can affect ur play!!!!

Hard to tell from your post if you are a good player or not.

You certainly made some very common mistakes as already mentioned by others...

Bankroll management being of chief importance - you can't play without money so putting yourself into a situation where you could lose your entire bankroll was very reckless.

Poker is a learning process and is very experience based. Learn from your errors and move forward.
