Do you view folded hands ?

Should you check your early folded hand ? If so, and you see you would have won if you had stayed in, is that a negative and/or positive? I have a tendacy to fold hole cards and/or after the flop and then I watch the others play and on so many occasions I would have won the pot. In my opinion I think I should not do that (even though it has become a habit) as I get focused on what I coulda/shouda/etc. and dwell on them many times and lose my focuse of the next hand being dealt.

I think it is important not to become results oriented, and realize that even if you 'would' have won the hand, you still made the correct decision in folding, thus saving you money in the long run (assuming that folding was the right decision). I think with time it becomes much easier to look and say, "Meh, yeah, I would have won, but would I really have been right to call that raise preflop with 5/7os...no". If it is a big problem for you though, and you find it affecting your game, don't do it.

I do like to look at my opponents' mucked cards when I win a hand, especially if there was a lot of action in the hand, just to get a feel for them and take notes on their play. It helps me to put a better profile on the players and adjust my play accordingly.

I used to do that but do yourself a favor and give yourself credit when you fold a hand that misses you in a big way...because that happens just as much as when you would've won

Do Not dwell on folded hands. Once it's folded condsider them gone and concentrate on watching what others are playingin that hand.

If your playing the cards that fit standard opening ranges for your table position you will do fine.

when u play tight, it's no problem u folded the winning hands, the cards are bad after all and don't want to risk it, i won't viewing my folded hands anymore, because it makes me wanna try to call with speculative cards, and for sure it spend my stacks.

I may watch the cards fall and notice that, had I played the hand, I would have won, but I never regret folding the hand.

Unless of course I folded a decent pair and SP shows 85o that he shoved me off the hand with...

This is valid, imo.

The only reason for looking at your own folded cards (assuming that you've forgotten them, which is common for me when I multitable) is to compare your decision with the range of hands or plays that your opponent(s) shows up with, not comparing them with what hand you would have made had you continued. In other words, if I raise a hand, it gets called behind, the big blind re-raises, I fold and the caller calls again, I put both players on a range of hands and after the hand I might want to review to see how my hand stood up against the other player's hands at the time that I made the fold decision and how their actual cards fit my range for them.

Or, maybe I fold behind a limper rather than raising, and no one bets the flop or turn. I might review my hand to see if it was worthy of raising the limper instead of just folding since he looks pretty passive and I could have taken the pot down preflop with a raise.

I might regret folding a hand, but not because of the cards that came later, but because I had an opportunity that I didn't realize or take advantage of earlier, like not knowing that an opponent is really awful and I should/could have taken advantage of that fact, but not because certain cards came out later.

i almost always watch the hands play out, not to see if i would've won but to see how other people play it- especially if i had what i assume is the best hand i like to see how people play it when they don't show their cards, that is, if the pot is taken down prior to the showdown

i really don't mind looking back at a hand and saying o wow i would have gotten lucky. i just make sure that i know that that wont happen a majority of the time and that you made the correct play in folding. and give yourself self some credit when you lay down a hand you would normally play.

it doesnt matter to me if i look or not because i try to play the cards im dealt to my best knowledge and i have notice a relative of mine getting sucked in by the folded cards too.deal them the same cards the folded earlier and would have won with they will play and usually turns out bad. go figure.

Sometimes I'll look but I wouldn't say it was out of anything more than passing interest - I'd like to think I don't get hung up on what could've happened or anything. Multi-tabling means you don't have a whole lot of time for that anyway.

Just don't look if you know it's a problem for you I guess

In online play, I tend to look at my hold cards after mucking. Because I can. And I think it's a bad habit. It makes much more sense to go with the philosophy that once it's mucked, it's gone! So use that time to watch what others are doing as arrytus said here.

What's funny is that when I'm playing live, I usually can't even remember what my cards were after I muck. Out of sight, out of mind! I used to be like that on college exams; once I finished a test, I'd never be able to remember the questions! I preferred waiting until I got the graded paper back to review. I hated the sitting around the table right after a test and rehashing what we should have answered.

What I've started doing as I've gotten involved with this forum is to note hands that I have questions about (whether played them or mucked) and post them in the hand analysis section. Someone here suggested that forum as the best place to go to learn. So far, I've been given respectful feedback to my posts and questions.

Once the cards are folded, theres nothing you can do about it. So try to just focus on the other plays and how they play.

I see you play at Full Tilt. If it helps, every action alters the cards that come out. Unlike on PokerStars where the cards are the same regardless, so if you had have played that hand, the cards would have come down differently.

But as was said, don't become 'results orientated', if you make the right folds, even if you hit this one time, over time, you know you're going to make money folding in that spot in the long run.

If it's improving your game then continue and when it's not then stop.

Replaying a portion of a Tournament with a hand re-player maybe worth the effort but I wouldn't take the Focus away during the current game.

I'll simulate as if I was in the hand and how I would be playing it.
But there is never a "what if" effect that lingers and could carry into future hands.

I always watch hands just because it gives me a look of how players play different hands..It might show a tell of how a player overbets or slow play a huge hand.

I also agree that you shouldn't look at folded hands. I have the tendency to do this myself and then I'm kicking myself later when i would've won a huge pot if i had just played. This is an EASY way to put yourself on tilt and ruin your focus and ability for the rest of the game/ tournament.

I think it's great strategy to check folded hands after the tournament had finished. If you lose, you will find key hands that maybe you could have played differently or maybe you played it perfect and just ran bad. You can learn a lot from these hands and develop patterns/strategies for situationd

Probably not only you have this habit and I guess many including me.Look at the hand I would have won there and there is a shame and then think right I've done in other situations not to get a big minus.

I your gonna see that alot because we are always looking for the winning hand. The thing is patience, not to let it get to you, because there will be more. just watch the draw close and make sure you can you wanna flip your cards at the end. another trick is to watch and listen to what everyone else folds rather than watch for what u folded. That way u can range you opponents.

I look at folded hands, when I feel like it could be integral to understand my opponents if it seems like a crucial hand.

Do you view folded hands ?
