Fold AA preflop in NLH? Yup

There is one reason why you would fold AA preflop in NLH. Do you know what it is? Mathematically in a certain situation it is the correct move. Gold star for whoever guesses what situation constitutes this move first.

Is it because nature came calling so you were forced to rush to the toilet so fast that you didn't care about your game but when you came back to look thru your hands you notice you folded AA and would have tripled, 2 hands later KK and would have doubled and then to rub salt into the wounds you had another missed AA and this time you would of quadrupled

Yeah sh*t happens..... literally

Anyways the real answer to this is most likely one of 2 things:

1. You are chip leader in a satellite and already have plenty of chips to get your ticket

Or

2. You are on a final table with significant pay jumps and there are a few all ins ahead of you so you go for the pay jumps

The only time it is correct to fold Aces pre-flop is if you are playing a satellite event into a larger event. For example, the event is paying out 20 seats and there are 21 people left and the short stack is going to be all-in on the current orbit and you are in good shape chip wise. There's no equity to be gained to play that hand.

I completely agree with Shumkoolie. Only one reason to fold AA is when you are waiting for few players when they dropped and you can use your ticket. But in other way I never fold AA anyway..

Folding AA does not compute unless it means survival.

All who said because you are playing a satellite are correct (GOLD STARS FOR ALL). If you are one or two off the bubble and 4 or more go all in and you are sitting average in chips (and one or two of the ai's have you covered) then it is mathematically correct to fold the AA no matter what you think of them. I forget the actual math but my scenario is close.

You can make a case for pay jumps, but the jumps better be significant and you should have little interest in winning the entire tournament and just making more money is good enough for you.

I agree with the satellite answer. Unless there is a significant reason to fold, you need to have your chips in the middle pre-flop with pocket aces.

I agree with the satellite answer too , because nobody on this world would fold AA that's crazy , I don't trust a lot in AA to win a hand but I will never fold that hand ,how I already said "that's crazy"

I just can't fold this monster pre-flop, i got huge agvantage with them, so i must use it. Actually i don't know what reason you talk about. I've seen some rare moments on live tables when players realy fold bullets, why they did like that, for me it's defenetly so weird...

I would fold AA if I was close to getting a ticket for a satellite, or if I was at or near the bubble of a tournament with significant payouts for making the money.....it would kill me, but I could do it. Any other time, including the opening hand of the wsop ME, my hands would be just a blur getting those chips in the middle.

I'am never do this yet. Fold ACES preflop....hm.... really might be VERY VERY strong reason for it....

Even don't know what it can be... Just someone talk about big buy-in tournament with huge number of strong opponents... and situation when you don't want lose your chips right now.... heh...

The only time I fold AA preflop is when I've taken a longer break than

the hourly 5mins tourney break and returned to my computer to see my hand

has timed out, or I'm a "sit out" and my cards have been automatically folded.

HAH. I did the same thing of sorts - had AA and accidentally hit fold/show - so not only did I fold AA preflop in a SNG but everyone saw it - ick.

Anywho, only in a satellite is it right to fold AA preflop (or on money bubbles when 6 or more are AI, once you reach 6 opponents the field has a better chance of winning than you)
