When bluffing - you're trying to convince your opponent that you have a better hand than they have.

I think the element essential to bluffing is to bet or raise. Although it is possible to just call your opponent as a bluff.

This should prompt a fold from your opponent.

Sometimes this is the only way you can win the pot with an inferior hand.

But beware - bluffing does not always work.

Hi everyone! I think the question was two-sided: what elements of bluffing do you consider important and how would you know that you were being bluffed against you. I agree with forum members' opinions about bluffing on my part: it's a hand, a board texture, an opponent, a tournament, and other factors. But when do people bluff against you? Who would risk calling to check or, again, by what factors do you determine that bluffing is against you? Personally, I questioned a couple of times a big bet against me with a fairly strong combination, and I was right, but mostly because I don't have time to keep track of everything in the game yet, I doubt whether the fold and sometimes the bet size doesn't matter. A bluff in poker is when you bet when you don't think you have the best hand.

A semi bluff is when you think you might not have the best hand or you think your hand has a chance of improving to become the best hand.

A post oak bluff is when you bet very small relative to the size of the pot, to look like you are trying to squeeze every ounce of value out of the hand, but you really do not think you have the best hand.

Try to study your hand advantage based on your possition at the table. Blockers are very important as well as possition. Stack size is there aswell...etc

Bluffing is when you bet and you try to tell to your opponent you have great hand......sometimes is ok but other time that cost a lot money.......i do that sometimes when that couple of hand i have nothing i try to win one hand like that...

You can bluff with 3 high as much as with 3 of a kind or a straight.

Not quite. Bluffing is trying to make your opponent fold a better hand, regardless how strong your own hand is. If for instance you have A7 on a board of AAJ-3-8, you have 3 of a kind with no kicker, which is a quite strong hand. But if you put in a big raise on the river, after your opponent has raised preflop and bet all streets postflop, then your goal is to make your opponent fold a better hand (or maybe the same hand) rather than to get called by a worse hand. And therefore you have turned your hand into a bluff.
