How long will it take before you start winning money from poker?

Hi Dim4ik555 and welcome to Cardschat. That is really a hard question to answer because it's not clear what you are asking. During that year you have been playing, was you able to win anything, or was it a losing experience you didn't need? I don't really know when I started winning, but I do know that winning comes and goes. But for me, I have more money in my BR than I had when I started. So I guess I been winning for awhile now. Well for me seems another 100 years wouldnt be enough to make some seourious cash. So far it seems to be like that, but you never know maybe tomorrow well be that day or next month or...I will never give up on that goal to make some seourious money.But it's just me... Cheers!!

dgospa I'm glad you posted that because it's a fact that it comes and goes and up and down. Maybe some side to side action too. What I'm really saying is that poker is a tough game, and you are never sure how it's going to be in any game on any day. But that don't mean you have to go broke, but if you see it happening you need to do something about it. No matter what protect your BR. Sorry you guys, I didn't see that I had already posted in this tread. Anyway, the hard facts may not be what you want to hear, but it's better to know the facts than it is to get out there and lose whatever money you have. For the last thing, and I'm sure you all will be glad when I get done, but if it had not been for CC members, I would have been broke way back.

I play 2 years but not yet earned on the poker, about poker know to all, not just winning small max won 150 $. and lost for the whole period somewhere around 300-400$. to start making at poker it is necessary to devote 12-15 hours a day. and it's not really as Nada live not virtual. I don't think you will learn to earn on the game. Good LUCK!!!

It depends on the competition, whether you play tourneys or cash games, your techniques, do you go all in blind, etc etc, you make $$ in a day or never, primarily it depends on your experience and reading your opponents moves, etc

Well i can control myself with BR i am not that type of player (gambler) who will give last buck for it..But sometimes i have that feel that some real big money win isn't that close as i hoped. I can build nice BR without deposit. After all like i said in 1st replay i will not give up. And CC helping me to learn something new every day to improve mine game. Just don't give up and be smart! Money will come and go like always...Cheers!

Of course, it all depends on your EFFORT (not cash) investment in learning poker. If you are that kind of player who simply waits for his lucky day and how long will it take for this day for itself to arrive, it might take approximately 100 years. However, if you are not passive about this and learn actively, the day will come MUCH faster.

One friend is like a real nerd, studies poker a lot and is a high level IT professional and it tooks like 3 years for him to start winning a couple of hundreds dollars here and then in a month.

I have a Law Degree and have been playing for like 1 year, I think it would take me forever to be successfull at poker... lol

I used to play poker and i Was very good But i leave the tables for 3 years and now o cant win a penny so my conclussion is "the Game its a sport and you Need to study and play Hard to start winning prices.

ive cashed out a lil over 2k since i started playing online in 07-its and up n down thing you can go months without winning-then move right into hitting just about every hand-its just a hobby for me nothing more-just something i enjoy doing

Poker is an up and down game. If you study and work hard (and put in a lot of time), I believe it is possible to consistently make a small profit within a year. However, as you move up in stakes, your play must improve to maintain a positive profit result. I started playing seriously about 8 months ago and can make a few hundred dollars a month consistently. I am currently studying and working so that I can move up to the next level with the goal being to average a profit of $500 a month. Time, effort, patience, and a positive attitude all help!

I began to play poker, still when I had no Internet. And well I knew many cunnings and nuances of game. therefore when I have begun to play poker in online, I have quickly enough begun to earn, almost at once. But then I wasn't able to cope with passion and instead of that to withdraw money yet, I lost them on more expensive tournaments. Therefore I almost half of year was in big minus. Now I became much more pragmatic and more careful. I steadily win, but as at me is less and less time for poker, I earn by means of him not much.

It depends what you mean. Started consistently making a profit on individual games, or have made a net profit over all the money you've ever put into poker? I started playing 4 months ago at the beginning of April. Since then I started out reading and practicing very intensively. I started moving up stakes on play money, then started doing micro stakes as well as play money about 2 months ago. I picked up a lot of information playing with real money but in reality ended up losing on a steady basis. It's only in the past few weeks am I almost back at the deposit I started with, so I am making it back but slowly and cautiously. I'd consider myself an extremely cautious player, so I'm considering this as a winning streak rather than having conquered the micro stakes.

Funnily enough I think the hardest skill to acquire is not picking up winning tactics, but eliminating silly mistakes. The worst is when you make one and immediately recognise the mistake. It's as if you knew that by doing it, it'd be foolish, and you plan beforehand not to do that kind of mistake, but it still slips through anyway. So when I first started I wasn't sure why it'd take so long to learn poker, but I think it's the infinite amount of possible scenarios that present themselves, that can confuse you. It's as if they're hiding in plain sight. Anyway I've gone off on a tangent. Good luck with your progress.

It's just hobby. sometimes I get few cents from freeroll tournaments.
you can win on first day if You are lucky and opponents not.

It depends how serious you take it. If you work at your game consistently and are honest with yourself about your leaks, you will have a shorter learning curve.

The answer for that question depends on what everyone understand the winning. You can win a couple of $$$ playing micro tables or tourneys but is totally different when you do that for living. Fot the second case I don't think 2-3 books can help you too much. The experience in poker you have will be the most important thing when you join to a table and some peoples have the capabilities to accumulate faster that experience than others.
Finally, it's not about "when" but more likely is about "how much"

I playing poker already 3 years if I remember right. At the begings I didn´t know anything about poker and I didn´t want to put money in something I don´t know. So I played some freerol tournaments and have some money from that.

How long will it take before you start winning money from poker?
