Discussion topic: Some players prefer a tight (conservative) style, while others prefer an aggressive one.
Which style do you think works best at online tables?
Does it depend on the type of players at the table?

In most cases, it's probably better to play safe and accept an opponent with a strong hand. But everything depends on the situation and the opponent.

Play however you feel comfortable, you know very well that sometimes you have to squeeze and sometimes you have to slow down. Simple

Good morning everyone.

I started playing poker at the end of 2018. From the experience I have in the game, I believe the most important thing is to play for value. I don’t know exactly how it works at other limits, because I play micro limits. At these limits, bluffing is not as important as value.

From my experience, I believe playing for value is better than playing very aggressively. That’s because villains at micro limits call a lot, really a lot. So, generally, when you have value, you can extract many chips from them.

If you play very aggressively, many times you will get called. The guy might have a third pair and still call the bet.

In my opinion, everything depends on the limit you are playing. At higher limits, I usually watch final tables on YouTube of high stakes.

At these high stakes final tables, I notice that the most aggressive players at the table are often the ones who end up winning. They put a lot of pressure on their opponents and manage to make them fold many hands.

So that is my opinion: at micro limits, playing for value is usually more effective; at higher limits, aggressiveness seems to play a much bigger role.

Aggression is great until you run into a 'calling station' who won't fold third pair. I prefer a conservative 'Tight-Aggressive' (TAG) style. I play fewer hands, but when I do play, I play them hard.

If the player goals is be always the first in the tournament, the best is play agressively. If is get ITM and occasionaly win, play conservative.
I always notice that some players that have a good stack in the beggining of the game, shoving and calling a lot, are commonly eliminated with nothing.

Yes. I think it depends on a lot of things. The opponents, the situations and many other circumstances. I sometimes change my style from time to time, so it's harder for my opponents to learn my game.

It all depends on your opponents and the cards they deal. It's better to play with different tactics.

A tight‑aggressive style tends to shine at most online tables because it blends patience with well‑timed pressure,
which is especially effective against the mix of cautious and impulsive players you often find there.
Online games move quickly, so playing tight (conservative) keeps you out of marginal spots
while still letting you capitalize when you pick up strong hands.
The aggressive part matters just as much, because passive play online usually gets punished by players who are happy to call light or fire back.
That said, the “best” style always depends on who’s sitting with you.
If the table is full of loose, splashy players, staying tight‑aggressive lets you trap them when they overextend.
Against very tight opponents, you can open up a bit more and steal more pots, still keeping that disciplined backbone.
In the end, tight‑aggressive isn’t just a style—it’s a flexible foundation you adjust based on the personalities and tendencies around you.

Aggressive is the opposite of Passive--------Conservative is the opposite of Loose---A loose player can be passive and a conservative player can be aggressive- TAG literally means conservative aggressive--- LAG means loose aggressive.

Aggressive play always depends on who is on the table with you. If a player is a calling station being aggressive has no value. The idea of winning the pot thru aggression is to make players fold.

That does not mean vs a calling station we would not use big bet sizing's -which is often mistaken as aggression. Aggression is about frequency of betting to get folds. If our V can be bluffed for 1 bb-think B VS B that bluff is considered to be aggressive.

If we bet 3x pot knowing the calling station is going to call us, we are not being aggressive we are being strategic. Solvers never use aggression yet will use large bet sizes

It's always better to mix it up, not holding on to just one style, surprising your opponents, bluffing with a Ja k when there are two Aces in the middle sometimes folding A-10 when someone is all in. Of course it always depends on the players at the table as well, you need to observe their tendencies, reaction times, betting/raising/vpip behaviour, watching their stats their previous wins. Everything is crucial, your position, wheather you are on the button or UTG or big blind.
If your opponents get a clue that you prefer one or the other style, they will use it against you. So stay unpredictable as much as you can.

Its better to play tight - aggresive style at the tables, but it's depends of your opponents, and sometimes you should mix more styles in one.

A loose-aggressive playing style seems more profitable to me, but it’s harder to play than a tight style.
