Playing AK

Playing AK is quite tricky.
When against several players, you need to raise or re raise to remove weak hands.
But when you are headsup, for example if you are big blind and someone raises, then i believe the best is just to call. Hiding the power of your hand is very important .

I think playing AK pref-lop you need to raise lots of people Ive seen limp AK don't do that raise AK you don't ever want a multi way pot then your at a disadvantage just raise AK always any position that's my thoughts.

When do you hide the power of your hand?

Pre-flop I will typically raise/re-raise AK from any position. The only time I think twice is when someone uncharacteristically shoves on the pre-flop, then I'll consider calling or folding depending on my stack.

Post flop is a completely different kettle of fish. Once the flop is out, it depends on the strength of my hand, position and what sort of plays other players are making based on the ranges they could have. Raising, calling and folding are all on the table at that point.

It depends on the situation (effective stacks, table image, opponent ability and tendencies etc.), but luckily, there are many articles and YouTube clips etc. on the "how to play AK" topic.

After all, AK often goes all-in, but the success rate is about 70%.

Iv'e read the book: Optimizing Ace King: The Right Strategy for Playing Poker's Most Complex Starting Hand. Was an ok read, but just goes to show you how much thought can go into playing a simple hand like AK. Table dynamics are very important in any situation and often play major role and often trump standard play.

AK is no harder to play than any other hand, you just need to adapt to your opponents and not slowplay.
