Satelite in Poker meaning

I have a question: What does it mean in online poker for the game to be “satelite” or something like that? Thanks if you answer!

Simply satellites, allows players on a low budget to participate in big tournaments.

It's a qualification game for a bigger Mtt.
I play them for entries to midstakes MTTs without hurting my bankroll.
Usually you pay 5-10% of the Initial buy in at a satellite, sometimes even less

So if I understand it right, theres more day 1 games being played every day, and those who made it to day 2, will only be winners of day 1 of any table? Thanks for the clarification!

Example ; A tournament has a buy-in of 5 dollars . Players can pay 5 dollars and then are in the tournament .
There can be no sattelites , or several , or just one , this is not always the same for each tournament .
[ basically higher buy-in tournaments have more and low buy-in tournaments have fewer in general ]
For this tournament 5 dollars , there can be sattelite tournaments that would cost around 50 cents and top 10 % will qualify for the 5 dollar tournament .

Day 2 [ the actual tournament ] is mix of players who buy in directly [ for 5 dollar] , plus players that have qualified through sattelites .

No this is a stage tournament. A stage tournament mean, there are multible stage 1, and players who survive a stage 1 then continue in stage 2 with whatever amount of chips, they have accumulated. So when stage 2 begin, there will be a large variation in stack sizes, and players might or might not be in the money already. A stage tournament is basically just a tournament, that is broken down into two pieces to give people more chances to play it. A satellite on the other hand is a tournament, which reward either tickets or a direct entry into a specific target tournament.

For instance tomorrow is the weekly $109 Sunday Million on PokerStars. And if you want to try to qualify for this for less than $109, then you might play a $11 satellite. This satellite will then reward an entry to the top 9% of the field or so. Lets say 200 people play, and the top 18 earn an entry to Sunday Million tomorrow. These 18 players are then simply registered, and when Sunday Million begin, they will be in the tournament from the first hand and dealt in with the starting stack.

The other common form, which is popular on for instance 888 Poker, is satellites, that reward tickets. Like maybe the top 5 players in a $5.5 satellite earn a $33 ticket, and this can then be used to play any $33 tournament. Typically such a ticket has an expiration date like maybe 30 days, but within that period of time you have the flexibility to play, whenever it suits you.

Just as correctly written a few times above, satellite simply means that you can get the opportunity to participate in big tournaments with little bankroll or budget

The prize isn’t cash, it’s a ticket to another tournament.

There are some major tournaments which have multiple days but that has nothing to do with satellites
As of now for example , the whole month stage ones for the micromillions Main Event are held at GGPoker
The last few today and in the evening, day 2 with ITM and mystery bounties will start.
When you make it through all the levels in Stage 1 you will be ITM and advance to day 2 .


Anyhow , satellites can be for any game, including the one I mentioned.
For 1$ you can win a 10.80$ ticket to the micromillions ME in example.
