If you are in the small blind with AJo, and action folds to the button, who opens for 3BB, do you defend, three-bet, or fold?

Hey there,
it depends on your situation.

Easiest example:
In a 100bb cash game= 3bet (size should be mixed up)

15/25bb spins= mix between 3betting light and shove

Larger and important tournaments (later stages):
It should be a 3bet or even shove very often, depending on your stack size. I highly recommend not to fight the biggest stacks with large 3bets, cause they usually call very wide.

You never fold, with one exception. The fold brings you the next payjump.

Hope that helps a little and please keep in mind. This should be used as a 2nd opinion and not as a permanent solution.

Yeah it definitely depends on the situation, the big considerations are how many big blinds do you and your opponent have, and for that matter how much does the big blind have. Is the button an aggressive good player or weak passive type player. If you have like say 15 BBs or less I would generally just shove in this spot and hope the BB folds so it’s just one player to go up against. The problem with just calling is the big blind, your inviting him to jam now or to just call and now you have two players to play against and you will be out of position the whole way, which is not ideal. If I have 20 or more big blinds I would think about maybe 3 betting but it’s never something that you always do, it’s all in general with poker. Your table image will have a lot to do with what you do here, is this a bubble situation, are we in the money, lots to think about here.
