Using HUD to exploit a player: Help.

There is a player I play regularly and I have a lot of hands onhim. He seems to be a terrible player but plays 6-10 tables and always seems to be 300-400BB deep on at least half.

Today he called a 4bb raise from the SB with 62s (lol, this hand is my albatros) I hit a set of 5s OTF and it goes check/bet/call to the river which is 5A7 RB 3 4 - no FD came in - and he shoves... I sigh call and am like... I have seen him shove blanks as well as nutz OTR....

So how can I best exploit him using my hands and stats on my HEM2?

I have never done this before, but is there a way I can look at stats ans get a strategy vs particularly him?

what is his vpip/pr? being 300-400bb doesn't mean he's a good player because he can always auto top up, if you play alot you'll get those stacks even if you're down.

The best you can do with tracker stats is to get a clearer picture of what he is doing.

Keep in mind that he may have that same amount of hands on you, and has you figured out. If you get that notion, best thing might be to avoid him for a good long while.

I sometimes use my HUD to change from lifetime stats (all the hands I have on people) to session stats. In my mind this gives me a better picture of how any of them are playing today. Not how they played last week, but today. Again, in my mind, this has led to a couple of situations where it was clear someone wasn't playing their 'A' game today. That was exploitable.

But taking your set to the river against someone who is relying on some fluke streak of luck, is not worth getting bugged about. Not really worth any thought, but clearly this guy has gotten under your skin. Do you think he might know that?

Thus my suggestion to just avoid him for a good long while.

He doesent get more than 100bb by topping up.

lol, no.

He plays like this all the time. I have played him for about 2k hands, but some were a long time ago.

However, I have been on tables with him lately, one being the 26s hand (and, no lol, he did not get under my skin because of this hand, but rather shows that he is a great player to have on your tables)

Plays like 30/15 lifetime, but has sessions where he is 60/40 over 100 hands. He will 3 bet an EP raisor who bet 3x, and he will raise 35bb and fold to a shove.

Avoid him? why?

That I can get a picture of what he is doing with my tracker is something I somewhat suspected..lol,

But how do I use exactly his stats to my advantage? Filter him IP? Him in 3bet pots? Him vs me? and so on.

I have notes on him. I was just wondering since I have never done any singleing a player out.

I guess I could do stuff like get all his SD hands and see how often he was real good and did what on every street, how often he c/r with semi bluffs, bluffs and made hands, and how often he bluffed and was called...

I dont know, I guess stuff like that. I was just wanting to know if anyone does this type of analysis on single players and how they go about it.

i assume you are still using HEM? i singled players out alot and used the tracker to help give myslef really good notes on players in game, it's really helpful when you have like 10+ regular players you come up against, but can't quite remember certain things that you need to remember about them.

if so you need to get into your data you have specifically on this player, since it's been so long since i've used it i've forgotten how to do it exactly.

But you basically go into his stats, and then filter for hands in which you saw his showdowns. You can then see how he's played several hundred hands to get a clearer picture of if this guy is truly a spazz or if your mind is playing tricks on you. Like, you will se hands vs yourself and see how he plays vs others.

if there is some rivalry between you two he's more likely to try and make moves on you, so he may not play the same way vs other players, which is why i try to avoid confrontation at the poker tables and instead prefer to make friends at the tables so it's easier to take their money.

apart from that looking at his in depth stats may help paint a clearer picture. and keep in mind having 2k hands on a player really still isn't that much in the whole scheme of things.

Having stuff like note caddy can help at times, however it usually just gives you an overload of information which is basically useless in the bigger picture. Instead try to get a general idea of what this players personality is like. Does he seem like the type of player who will go after other players, is he just playing for fun and likes to splash around. if you can work that out, you can work out what he's likely to do in a lot of differant spots, and once you know that, you can tailor a gameplan against this guy to take advantage of all and any weakspots you can take advantage of.

so instead of note caddy saying he calls with 62o and does whatever postflop, put down useful things like, "this player seems to target me and there's a possible rivalry between us" or "this player pulls moves on me, but doesn't seem to do the same things to other plaeyrs" whatever it is that you notice about him, and make sure you date the notes you take as you may want to review the player at a later date as he may have changed his style of play or whatever.

i missed this post.. yes that's exactly how you do it, see his showdowns and how he plays hands. You can filter for hands played vs yourself with SD and then do it vs other players and exclude you to see how he differs.

I never played enough cash hands to do it, but i used this method to get a better picture of regular players in SNGs all the time. Either players who are good that trouble me, or regular players who i wanted to exploit more to make more money from. it really does help when you are multitabling in game to do this away from the tables, then you don't have to do that thinking in game

I try to do this once every two weeks: filtering for all opponents I have 1000+ hands against, and going over all the hands they played that went to showdown (from their perspective) to get a handle on how they play.
If there's anything noticeable about their bet sizing or tendencies, then that'll make a great read when facing a similar situation vs them in the future.

I would deffo recommend having the WTS (went to showdown) stat in your HUD, if you don't already.

It really helps against this type of player. It's not infallible, obviously, but it helps to differentiate when they are chipping up by throwing their weight around and when they are running like gods. Obviously for this to work you need to have it for this session only, not total history.
