So many things are important because there are so many variables to consider. Here are a few things I think are of very high importance.

1) bankroll management - you should be playing such that losing your entire stack does not harm your finances. Your focus should be on making good decisions, not being scared of losing your stack.

2) Develop a solid opening range for all positions - This is so important. You need to have a good mix of premium hands and speculative hands in your range so that your opponent will have no idea what you are playing with. Playing only AA/KK/QQ from EP makes you way too easy to read. Having a good range makes it harder for opponents to defend against your bluffs and it hides your monster hands much better.

3) Patience - Just because you lost a big pot when your opponent hit their straight on the river doesn't mean you should jump right back into the next hand with marginal cards or start raising aggressively.

4) Don't be afraid to take risks - Don't run away every time the pot gets big and you face a tough decision. You also need to mix up your play and occasionally 3-bet with your middle pair or raise big with your draws. They don't always work, but these plays make it hard to play against you.
