In your opinion, what’s the most common mistake players make in poker?
Not talking about beginners only — even regular players.
Is it overbluffing?
Calling too much?
Playing too many hands?

Curious what everyone thinks

I think it is confusing results with skill. Winning a hand doesn't mean you played the hand well. Losing the hand doesn't mean you played the hand poorly.

A lot of regular players think their biggest leak is something dramatic like “I bluff too much,” but honestly, the most common mistake is far more subtle: people hate folding good-looking hands in bad spots.
Even experienced players get attached to top pair or an overpair and convince themselves the opponent “can’t have it,” even when the story clearly says otherwise.
Another big leak is playing on autopilot — not adjusting to table dynamics, stack sizes, or specific opponents.
Over time, that lack of adaptation costs far more than the occasional wild bluff.
If I had to sum it up, the real mistake is emotional decision-making disguised as logic.
Poker rewards discipline more than brilliance, and that’s where many players quietly bleed chips.

In my opinion, the most common mistake is playing too many hands. Many players get bored or curious and start calling with weak hands. Over time, this leaks a lot of chips. Discipline and good hand selection are very important in poker.

The biggest leak I see is not betting thin enough for value. So many players check the river because they're afraid of being check-raised, but they miss out on so much profit from players who would have called with a worse pair.

In my experience, the absolute biggest leak—and it's not even close—is ego-calling on the river. Most players just can't accept that they're beat when the "story" doesn't make sense to them, or they feel like they’re being bullied

For me, one of the most common mistakes even regular players make is playing too many hands. It’s easy to get tempted by marginal spots or chase fun hands, but that usually leads to tricky post-flop situations and unnecessary losses.
Overbluffing and calling too much happen too, but I’ve noticed that most mistakes come from not respecting hand selection and position. Tightening up and being disciplined with what to play often solves more problems than any single post-flop adjustment.
