For me, the hardest positions are actually the middle positions — MP2, MP3, Hijack area.
Early position is tough, but at least the decision is often simple — play tight, stick to premium
hands, done. The blinds are uncomfortable but you already have money invested, so the math is clearer.
Middle position is where I struggle the most, and the reason is marginal hands.
You pick up something like K♠J♥, Q♠T♦, A♥9♣ — hands that look decent but are genuinely dangerous. You're not first to act, so you already have some information, but there are still too many players left behind you. You don't know if the Button is about to wake up with a big hand. You don't know if UTG who limped is slow-playing something strong.
Do you raise and build a pot with a hand that's vulnerable? Do you call and play out of position post-flop? Do you fold and feel like you're being too tight?
Every option feels slightly wrong.
Premium hands play themselves from anywhere. Trash hands are easy to fold. But those in-between hands from middle position — that's where I feel the most pressure and make the most mistakes.
Still working on it honestly.
