Are you a hunter by nature, or does your soul prefer setting traps?

Do you like the straightforward line — c-bet and barrel?
Or does your soul enjoy slowplaying sets and monster hands?
Check-calling with strong holdings or going for a surprise reraise?

My soul prefers trapping.
Calling with AA.
Medium raise with KK.
When I hit a set, I like check-calling or sometimes check-raising.
When I have a flush, I check or make small bets until the river.

I also enjoy a good triple barrel when the moment feels right,
but deep inside, nothing feels better than trapping an opponent
and turning their own aggression against them.

Yes, there is no such situation in poker where full houses, flushes, sets, or quads come often enough for us to rely on constant trapping.
Traps are about the nuts — the strongest hands that appear rarely. And of course, you need to mix your play; you can’t slowplay with just one pair — in those spots you must attack.

But still, I’m not a predator.
I’m more of a player who enjoys catching the predators.

Generally I prefer to make a trap, but at times, when there comes a sequence of good hands, then I am quite a hunter in order to increase the chips as much as possible.

AA and KK generally went into the trap and drank bad beats on the river. So I started to be more of a hunter with those cards.

Yes, if AA or KK don’t connect with the board, you definitely need to apply pressure.
Slow-playing in 90% of situations is unacceptable.
Preflop strength (AA and KK) is a weapon, and it’s not always clear whether it’s pointed at your opponent… or at you.

Nuts on the preflop can turn into trash on the postflop.
A hand that starts as the strongest can easily become the weakest, and the river is especially ruthless.
Even the strongest hand can commit harakiri if you play it incorrectly.

You must also avoid arrogance: thinking “I’m playing against a fish, I can slow-play” is a bad strategy.
You’re not only playing against other players — you’re also playing against the RNG, which often gives you AA but then opens a board designed for you to lose everything to pocket deuces or J3s.

Trap setter for sure, it's enjoyable seeing your opponent bet/check raise you while you know you have the best hand
But it's important to know when to do that and also when to be the aggressor

In a three-bet, it's interesting if your opponent also hits something, such as top pair or even two pairs. Then you can let the villain keep betting.

Yes, you said it very correctly. You absolutely need to understand where to be aggressive and where to use your opponent’s aggression against him.
Top pair with a strong kicker — attack.
Two pair — attack.
A set on a dry board — you can check.
Top pair plus a flush draw — you can make a small bet or check.
You must never slow-play AA, KK, or QQ when you miss the board — it can become very painful.

Here’s a hand from my own experience, and it was an expensive mistake that taught me not to tempt fate.

I had JJ.
I raised 7BB from the CO.
A reg from UTG called.
The flop came J T T.
I checked, opponent checked.
Turn: Q.
I bet 3BB, the reg raised to 10BB, I called.
River: another Q.
The final board: J T T Q Q.
I checked, opponent went all-in.
I’m thinking: “No way... what now, quads? Or does he also have a full house?”
I called — and he showed AQ. 🤦

And that hand explained very clearly how painful slow-play can be, even when you have a full house in flop.
I allowed my opponent to realize his hand almost for free and outplay me for my entire stack 😂

That’s why knowing **when to slow-play and when to play aggressively is essential**.

I like bluffing with 2-3 off. I love bluffing with 4-5 off and hitting a straight so you better raise me and never let me see the flop or you might facing a 44455 Full house.
I love calling 7-J and hitting double pair.
I fold Aces and Kings when I don't hit anything on the flop.

I’m more like the player who sees the flop, doesn’t fully understand what just happened,
and says: ‘Let’s just go with the flow and see where this goes!’

Sometimes I play like a professional hunter: c-bet, barrel, stone-cold face like I know exactly what I’m doing…
And other times I turn into a creature that loves traps: slowplay, check-check,
to the point where even I forget I’m holding a strong hand!

But honestly… my real style is:
‘Play according to mood — if I win, I call it strategy, and if I lose, I blame bad luck!’

And you keep setting those traps… just let us play against you wearing safety helmets!
