How important is it to be social at live poker table?

I don’t believe all players are social people, especially at the high stakes on television. I see many players that are very quiet . so imo being social isn’t very important. Obv in low stakes , local casino games the game becomes more fun and I see many indulge in a few drinks being social at that. But this isn’t always a positive. Seen many get a little too socail and punt away their chips.

In my opinion in live games you have to be the most confortable you can, and not all people fell confortable being social, moreover if you are very expressive then be social could play against you.

You'll probably get more action if your not sitting there like a bum on a log, people will be more likely to play with you as it will be perceived as more fun then engaging with the person who hasn't said anything and is clearly only there to try and take your money.

However if you are a more quiet person I don't think it would be looked at too negatively if you didn't say much other than the occasional smile and add a comment to the occasional conversation you're interested in.

In general talking to other people is fun and part of human nature, it will probably add to most people's experience which is what we want in theory, the recs to have an enjoyable time even if they are losing money, so overall I think it's better to be at least polite and have a smile on your face and seem approachable, it will probably have the highest EV over the long run

People are always unhappy to have me at the table. They complain at me and they keep considering switching table. Always complaining about how tight I am and they like to be rude to me and try to angle shoot me but they can't because I know they are all trying to get at me in some other ways than just straight up poker so I am super careful, I dont even show my hand at showdown until dealer tells me to because it's actually that insane how everyone is constantly trying to screw me.

It's like this every single day I play. But I think it must be good that everyone hates having me at the table, it means I'm not profitable to play against. Against loose players and recs they put on on their ass kissing act and turn up the charms and start entertaining the recs, make them feel as welcome as possible. And that is good of course but it just shows that if are a fish then everyone will be happy to have you at the table and be nice and friendly, but if you are, well lets just say unprofitable to play against, then everyone will be obnoxious against you.

Everyone chooses for themselves how it is more convenient for them to behave at the table, some come only for fun, some only for competition, I think it’s better to be somewhere in the middle.

Being social can get tells from opponents. For example, they may talk more/less when they have a good hand or bluffing. I think for lower stakes I believe this would work a lot better.

Yes, I think chatting at the poker table is always good. If you know how to maintain a dialogue, it's cool, but the main thing that doesn't bother you is playing poker. If you're all right with it, why not communicate because you develop yourself as a player and as a person so much than just looking at cards is boring

I agree with you, I also like it when players at the poker table communicate on general topics, when everyone is in a good mood. But there are times when there is one player at the table who constantly talks and cannot stop. In this case, it starts to get annoying. Or when people talk in raised voices, I don’t like that either. I love a friendly, calm, cheerful atmosphere, especially when someone is joking. Communication can be different, either players communicate on equal terms or one of the players puts himself above others and then no one likes it at the poker table. How important it is to be sociable, I cannot tell you, I think the main thing is to be part of the company in which you are.

I don't like to be distracted by conversations. During the game, I try to be focused, think through my decisions well and not pay attention to comments or conversations at the table.

If you play live poker for profit, especially cash games in a local casino, then you need to view the recreational players as your customers and help to create a playing environment, which they enjoy and will come back to be part of. And a certain amount of table chatter is clearly part of that. If half the table is sitting with hoodies and earphones on, and basically not saying a word other than "call", "raise" or "fold", then recreational players might as well play online and save the trip to the casino.

If we are talking about a live game, then communication with opponents is part of the game and definitely an important factor. But I only play online and communication is not really a priority for me. I'm just trying to play and enjoy the game itself

It is very important because that way you know your opponent well and perfectly, although some may hide their true personality, but at least it gives you many clues to reach a conclusion.

I agree. I have played in the past live on a dead table. Nobody talking and very unfriendly. Not an enjoyable night at all. People at the table took the game too seriously. It has quite frankly put me off playing live games. That was a few years ago and I have only played online since.

It depends on the image that you want to express at the table. If you want te be seen as solid, then being super social may not be the best idea.
