Cash out or not?

Dear, CC

I was recently playing NL Hold'em cash games and was getting in my money good with some great draws (Flush plus open ended/gutshot straight draws, top 2 overcards over openended straight draws etc.) and I noticed that Pokerstars (where I play the most) offer the cash out option.
So my question to you is, would a professional profitable player should always option in for cashing out before the turn and a river or just a river?
I am really curious to see what you guys think!

Professional players should never use the all-in cash-out option, since it cost a fee of 1% and dont increase their long term winrate. Professional players should have enough bankroll and emotional control to simply ride out the waves of variance.

here you need to look at your percentages with all in, if you have 70%+ then I see no reason to finish the distribution in advance, but if you are a small favorite, then you can already consider such options, in general, it all depends on the situation

I dont know if a professional player would want to do that. I dont know how it works either but if you getting it in goo more often than not why would you settle for less. I would love to hear more on this option though.

If you sometimes use this new feature on Pokerstars win insurance or guaranteed win, then you can reduce the total losses. This helps when the opponent has a strong draw or when drawing a coin when you have a small pair and the opponent only has overcards, in such cases you need to put all-in on the flop or turn.

Cash-out is never profitable in the long run. Professional players do not use it. Cash-outs are mainly aimed at beginners or players who are not yet mentally comfortable with bad beats, coollers etc. Such players may be inclined to use this option to defend themselves against a tilt.

Because of the fee you should not do it, because it reduces your EV in this situation. If you are susceptible to tilt or if there are other factors, it can make sense to accept the 1% in the short term. However, you should then work on these problems to not need this option.

There's no shame in using it, I think it's even good for people who are still unsure about poker. But as always, you have to pay attention to your bankroll management and only play what the bankroll allows. And if you do that then you don't actually need this option. Although sometimes you just don't want to go away empty-handed and you've already seen that the cards aren't enough to win, in which case it's up to you whether you accept the loss or use the cash out option

Pressing the cash out button takes 1% of the pot.Over a long distance, the amount of this additional rake will give a large number of buy-ins.There is no point in using this feature if losing a stack does not affect the bankroll in any way. Perhaps it makes sense to take a cash out in order to smooth out the variance. But again, the distance will return everything

I use it from time to time, depends on certain spots. The last one I had AQ vs a player who was running good at the table, flop came AKx and he was pushing his hands too far. so I check-raised him / he jamed. I knew he had a weaker Ace. He Turned KQo. I had around 90% equity so i cashed-out. The Turn was a king / river a blank. If I didn't cashed out i would probably lost 100bb in a hand that I was a large favorite. Personally I like cashing out when i have above 80% equity.

I agree, I do the same, but I cash out, if I have less than 80+ percent. And I really like this feature, respect PokerStars!

I'd agree with the other posters, a professional should never have to use a hedge like this just because there's a chance they'll lose. GGPoker offers a similar feature on their cash tables and it's never worth it, even for rec players.

Very good question, I always wondered why its there and when it would be good to use it if at all. Yet I never understood why I would opt in to cash out when I raised or called an all in- I always decided to being confident I have the nuts or have the opponent dominated. Reading answers it looks like I made the right choice

I have always been for the All-in Cash Out feature. This helps to avoid tilting. But if you use it before the turn, then the chances of winning the flop are often almost equal. Therefore, when the last card of the river is not open yet and your chances are about 90% to win, then it makes sense to use Cash Out and get a significant part of the pot.

Just for the record I am not saying, that nobody should ever use the cash-out feature in cash games. When I played cash, I have sometimes used it myself. It can make sense, if you are trying to build up a bankroll, and also if you have some tilt issues, that you are working on improving. Maybe a reasonable rule of thumb could be to always cash out, if your equity in the pot amounts to >5% of your bankroll and to never do it, if its <2% of your bankroll. In between those numbers it could be considered situational and depending on your ability to control tilt.

When I specifically said, that professional players should never use cash-out, that is based on the assumption, they should be very conservative with their bankroll management, so they should never be in a situation, where a bad beat can cost them 5% of their bankroll and rarely even 2% of their bankroll. If for instance you play 100NL online for a living, you should have a bankroll of 10.000$ at a minimum and also some extra money set aside to cover living costs during those month, where you dont have profits to withdraw.

I like cashing out , only if I have very good odds I wont do it , even then the option to cash out is very tempting ....

Sometimes it can really pay off to take the cash out option. You may not win as much as when you take the risk, on the other hand, the profit is then guaranteed yours.

It is said that in poker you should get the maximum profit with good hands and the minimum loss with bad hands. Therefore, the decision would also depend on the cards and position in which you are, right?
