Do not judge your opponent by avatar, by name or nationality, nor put then on a read based on just one hand

Clearly you have never played online with someone using a sheep avatar.

Kidding of course, well mostly anyway, but welcome to the forum.

I've used a hot blonde before as an avatar. The other guys are more likely to assume I don't know what I'm doing. It's a funny psychological phenomenon.

That is obvious, the avatar or nationality never defines the way of playing of oneself (except in Russians, most are the same)

I thought it was a book by its cover but I suppose this works too.

Playing one way to start a session or tournament and alternating between tight and loose will also help you keep your opponents guessing.

Good luck to you! :D

You are right, but some nationalities have a level of play and also serves as player information

Under the name and avatar can be a strong player. Beware.

Neither complain when some donkies goes all in or loosing by bad beat, all that is perfectly natural, allowed, so it is possible to happen.

Well, by the name I do not agree, because if you know his person or nickname and know that he is a good professional player it is good to score when you are playing against him.

I think that avatar, user name, and country of origin gives no information. It's all nonsense.

I do not appreciate my opponents this way. Just seeing how he plays. I have written 15-20 players who play the game. And about 100-200 who are fish: D

What about all the Russians? Can we assume they play almost the same?
If yes, what is your experience with them?

It is not a good idea to judge a player by their avatar does not cost anything to give a researched on the players who are around him.

Most Russians seem to play a maniac bluffy style of play but to assume all are the same could get you in trouble.

That was my hunch too. Most of them are not afraid to run an absolute bluff but of course not all are the same.

I used to stereotype but it's only true 20% of the time in my experience, there are tight east European players :)

The poker book I am reading now actually starts off with some generalizations based on avatars and user names. I am sure that these are not correct 100% of the time, but it surprised me how accurate they can be. Here are a few examples:

- Anything involving booze or cars typically mean a player > 30 years old, likely a recreational player
- Anything involving a famous poker player, likely to be bad
- 'Crazy', 'bluff' anything like that in a name, very likely a tight player. I have found that the opposite is also true. This one is the most reliable out of what I have found.
- Baby in picture often a rec. player > 30 and probably very bad
- Pop culture references, things like 'lol' or 'monies', indicate a young player, likely active in forums who is probably aggressive
