We really enjoy playing poker, both live and online. But it’s also very interesting to watch professional players on YouTube, like Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu, to study their strategies and decision-making.
Do you think this kind of strategy is actually applicable to our own online poker games, especially at low or mid stakes?

No. Definitely not, you can't do that.
On YouTube, you watch professional players play live. At home, you play online. Live play and online play are completely different types of poker. You can watch videos, analyse how professionals play, think about what decisions you would make in a given situation, but you definitely shouldn't transfer your actions or decisions to online play.

In big buy-in tournaments, you need to focus on making the most of your position and also making sure you don't get bullied too much when you're out of position. In poker, as in life, things are not always as they seem, and it is important to understand this.

Nope they aren't and trying to copy them strategies that high stakes players use can and will often cost players their whole bankrolls at micro, low and mid stakes. One has to adjust to the player pool/stakes he's playing not the stakes he dreams and wishes he was playing.

Cheers!!!

Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to play live, max. with friends, not in a casino. I would like to try it, it can be a completely different feeling to touch the cards, chips, watch the vibrations of the opponents, experience the atmosphere of the room. That can be the real experience.

Watching pros like Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu is great for motivation and understanding how top players think their bet sizing, hand reading, and overall approach is inspiring. But online and live poker are very different games. Online is faster, players are looser, and you don’t get physical tells, while live poker gives you more info from timing and behavior. So while you can take concepts and ideas from their play, you need to adapt them a lot for low and mid stakes online games.

Watching pros like Phil Ivey or Daniel Negreanu is great for learning thought process, discipline, and hand reading, but their exact lines don’t always translate to low–mid stakes.
At these levels, games are usually more straightforward and exploitative. Simple fundamentals—value betting, position, bankroll management, and avoiding fancy bluffs—tend to work better than pro-level balance plays.
So yes, learn how they think, but adapt what you play to the player pool you’re in. That’s where the real edge comes from. ♠️

In my opinion, live poker is more fun than online poker, but online you can play anytime and much more often.

I think a lot professional live players are not good in online poker. Back in times of Full Tild Poker i remember some of the sponsored ones even lost almost everythink and still beeing called "professional". You could see their loss on sharkscope. Nevermind i think it really depends on you and your own play. You can learn from live players too as a online player but i think not that much as you might think.

To be a successful player, you need your own strategy. You can, of course, base your strategy on that of professional players, but this should only be a foundation that you modify to suit yourself, taking into account your playing style, preferences, temperament and personal qualities. Your strategy should be tailored exclusively to you.

Watching pros like Ivey or Negreanu helps you understand how top players think, but copying their plays doesn’t work well at low–mid stakes online. Those games reward simple, exploitative poker much more than fancy or balanced strategies. Take the ideas, but always adapt them to your player pool.

I agree with the consensus here. Although most things that the pros do aren’t applicable at low level online stakes some things are worth trying.

For me online poker is a very convenient tool to use when I want sharpen my play up for live poker. The fact I can enter a tournament any time day or night is amazing.

It's not really applicable at low limits, because there are a lot of fish calling where competent players fold. You always need to be exactly one level higher than your opponent, and no more. Otherwise, you're outplaying yourself.

Yes, it’s useful, but only if applied correctly.
Watching pros helps with thinking processes, discipline, and hand reading. However, at low and mid stakes, many opponents don’t play optimally, so copying high-level plays blindly can be a mistake.

I think you have to go your own way, you can't transfer the knowledge of pro players to your own, or only to a small extent.
I prefer live play, it's much more exciting, although much slower than online play.
