I currently live in Poland and playing poker for real money is prohibited here. What do you think about the legalization of poker in our country? I think poker is definitely a game of math and skill rather than a random event. And what do you think?

Each country has its own opinion and there is some truth to it, but if poker is banned in your country, that's sad.

I’ve met some really great poker players from Poland in Vegas and yeah I think it’s crazy that it’s banned there. Hopefully someday they will legalize it!

You can play at Rozvadov. I think Khabrel plays a lot at Rozvadov. As for online, that's too bad. Move somewhere close to the border and just visit another country once in a while.

they tried to in Brazil but Akari and Igor Federal did a great job at our congress. It's just that the government wants a piece of it and the ppl taking care of it understand nothing but taking other`s money

You think it's good that it's banned? You do realize what this forum is... right?
You think online poker should be banned? Why not just don't play?
Why would you want others to not be able to play? (I can't say what I REALLY think about this as I'm sure it would be grounds to ban me)

It's very difficult to legally play for real money in Poland. casinos can theoretically organize tournaments, but they're not profitable because they don't make any money, and winnings are heavily taxed. It's simply not worth playing in casinos. Online poker is banned. What's more, the Polish Championship is held in the Czech Republic. Many poker rooms (Pokerstars, Unibet, PartyPoker, 888, and the iPoker network) have withdrawn from the Polish market, and Polish players can no longer play there. However, a few poker rooms remain that accept Polish players.

Officially, online poker is banned. However, players from Poland can be found on many poker platforms that accept them. GGPoker even has a Polish Poker League.

It will only depend on the statesmen, as poker rooms always want more players.

In fact, the line between intellectual sports and gambling in poker is really thin. It depends a lot on the human factor. So it is not surprising that some countries decide to classify poker as gambling and limit it.

It`s been a thorny issue in a few countries and even court cases over it like in the USA, to some extent I can understand it to a degree with some shady open cash games. I grew up in the UK and there were bans in some pubs, we used to put our bets under an ashtray or below the table because of some law but when it comes to playing in tournament games, I honestly don`t see a problem? How is it any different to say playing in a monopoly or scrabble tournament where you buy a ticket to play and the winners get a cash prize?

Well, I still think the situation of poker in Poland is at least "surprising" or I would even call it ridiculous.
Gambling in general is not banned in Poland - there is alot of licensed casinos, you are free to play casino games both life and online. Same with sport betting. Just not poker. Poker is under government monopoly, so the only casino allowed to organise poker games is the government owned one.
But this one somehowe does NOT organise poker games and so, poker is illegal in Poland.

really, they actually allow gambling but ban poker? then i think the problem is taxes. they cant collect enough tax from online poker so it is banned

I agree with you completely: poker is fundamentally a game of skill with elements of luck, not the other way around.
Over one hand, anything can happen, but over thousands of hands, skill, math, and decision-making always win out.
That’s what separates poker from true games of chance like roulette or slots.

It's a shame that poker is still banned in certain countries; it's a great game where you develop many skills that can be useful in other areas of your life. But oh well, each country has its own terms and conditions.
