Garrett Adelstein the class act.

It’s not that often you see people who present as thoroughly likable in the poker world but for many Garrett Adelstein appears to be one of them.

Oddly, I was familiar with Garrett Adlestein before I had ever played a hand of poker as I was a fan of Survivor when he appeared in Survivor Cagayan (blame Brenda Lowe for my Survivor addiction).

Adelstein is one of the regulars on the Hustler Casino stream and I happened to watch the stream just after it played out - it was controversial in the moment. This is an edited clip of the hand just released.

Garret was playing in a hand HU with a newbie to the game, Ethan. Garrett had him on the ropes but then gave him a heads up to spare Ethan another $66.5k. Though some can argue Garret should have taken him for everything, the majority see it as Garrett is a pure class act...and good for the game in the longer term.

A really nice moment.

Very cool. (I too, am a fan of Garrett from the Survivor days )

I'm sure there are instances out there where Garrett is not shown in a good light but no one can deny that he wasn't a good guy right there.

Haven't run across the gent but am happy to take your word that he is a good fellow. More to the point nice recovery in blaming someone else as an excuse for watchin Survivor.

No recovery, Brenda Lowe was the Survivor contestant that got me hooked on Survivor - I crushed on her so badly from her first series on.

Which is another irony here as Survivor (not that I knew it at the time) is avidly followed by many a poker player such as Daniel Negreanu and Jason Somerville - and evidently Shells! In fact Jason Somerville gets Survivor winners who play poker such as Tyson Apostol and Rob Mariano to play in Run It Up Reno etc.

The interest flows the other way also...Garrett Adelstein, Jean-Robert Bellande and Ronnie Bardah have all been Survivor contestants.

Survivor remains the only reality show I have ever seriously watched!

Garrett is a regular on Live at the Bike,a poker show that broadcast high-stakes games, and where he always delivers dominating performances.Previosly,he was up against the top regs heads-up at the highest stakes.He also participated in live cash games,where multi-million dollar pots were played.

I don't think I've ever seen such an act during any game. I've seen players accidentally give away signals of strength but not like this he basically said save your money kid well done Garrett. Good job the kid didn't think it was a reverse tell trying to act strong when weak. Garrett does seem like a gentleman from what I've seen

I watch "GMan" regularly on stream (Hustler Casino Live).
Also interesting: "Pokerbunny" in the same games, who always wakes up trolls and fans
A lot of free content, but also a lot of limping and calling...

Was this an act of good will? G is known to be polarizing, and a troll at times. He didn't say that he had it until the last time bank. Not sure the table history, but saying something could have been a way of inducing a call. Hard to really tell, but a neutral action from G IMO. I would like to hear why people think this was such a saintly act though.

Sorry, Garrett Adelstein is known to be polarizing?

No doubt, I am sure he can have an off moment but 'known to be polarizing'? I have watched him for countless hours and I cannot recall when he has trolled anyone. Further if someone sucks out on Garrett then apologizes, he is known for telling them no need to do so. He takes his bad beats with grace.

However, feel free to post polarizing moments to dispel the image some of us might be mistakenly clinging to.

Garrett is a good looking guy and a very good poker player. I am going to presume (human nature) that some are going to find that polarizing - that was evident as early as his Survivor days.

But, I am not aware anyone called him a saint, but rather a good guy and a gentleman.

Well, not really - I just managed mix up the words "class act" and "class action lawsuit" in my mind.

I am a Survivor fan for sure! Some seasons have slipped by but still enjoy the show. I can't say that I have a true favourite but Boston Rob, Sandra, Ozzie, Tyson and this season's Jonathan are on the list (there are others but these were the people that come to mind). Ronnie Bardah's time on Survivor was extremely short and I was a bit disappointed that he didn't go just a bit further.

Yes!

I was not a Survivor fan initially - never watched it. Then a close friend made me sit through one episode after making dinner for me...and I was hooked. Apart from some you name above, I thought the way Tony Vlachos dismantled the game and opposition during the Cagayan season was fantastic because it seemed to fuel inject the show once again.

Most people are unaware that the show has always held ratings close to the ten million viewers mark even when the media landscape was quickly fracturing.

Then when I joined the poker community I was delighted to find out that so many were devoted Survivor fans.

Garret got screwed in his season because obviously there was one weird tribe dynamic, Jean-Robert Bellande put his foot in it by talking in the sea when he could be heard. But Ronnie Bardah? Yeah, that was disappointing. I can recall everyone was excited and I listened to the DAT podcast when Negreanu, Adam Schwartz and Terence Chan had decided they would follow along and report week by week on Ronnie's progress.

But there was a lot more that happened behind the scenes with Bardah's quick exit. I came across this really nice interview by Dalton Ross for EW when they went back during Covid to interview some interesting parties who participated in earlier seasons. Bardah discusses his life, his appearance on the show and the interest from the poker community.
